Hey...Erm...I'm kinda new here as I'm sure you guessed... Well, I'm 13 and really don't know that much about communism/marxism/etc (only what my dad's told me). I came here to talk to some people who really know their stuff... I'm feeling pretty stupid now (just tried reading the basic communist stuff and got confused)...So I won't go into much detail except I believe that, unlike popular belief, freedom and equality can come together with care. I started getting interested in communism when I started reading into World War 2 and the polotics behind it (which lead to learning about Stalin, then communism, etc). Recently I started getting into the Vietnam war (recently got the fantastic manga Apocalypse Meow) so that's how I started getting mixed up in communism...I hope I'm not just a big annoyance to the no-doubt smarter folks out there on this fantastic forum...
Well...on to my interests:
Music: Kings Of Leon, Nirvana, The Pixies, The Breeders, Weezer, REM, The Clash, Metallica, The Sex Pistols and some others I can't quite think of.
Video Games: Well, I doubt many people here play video games but if they do I own an XBox (hate microsoft, just bought it for Halo) and my favourite game is Max Payne, I also love my little GBA
Movies: My favourites are Yojimbo, The Ring series, Ju-On, Ghost Dog, Donnie Darko
Manga/anime: I'm a serious manga/anime fan and my favourite manga is Battle Angel Alita...Favourite anime is...err....can't decide...
Anyway, I hope to learn more(something) about communism whil I'm here and maybe make some friends too!

yea...I'm tired now so tomorrow morning I'll have a real good look at the new to it section...May I suggest a "Communism For Kids" thread which is the basic principles using as basic language as possible? That'd really help. Also, may I ask why Ho Chi Minh isn't in the little communist names biographies thingy? I thought he was a communist...

Welcome aboard, I'd like to say that I think that you're already on the right track being interested in this stuff at 13. Ask as many questions as possible, there are a number of people here who'll be willing to help you. Don't worry if you're confused about certain concepts and ideas, I can guarantee you that there will be a number of people twice your age still grappling with Marxist theory. Anyway, have fun.

There is a thread called High School Commies Guide, but I can't find it just now as search isn't working for me.

Welcome Idiot, :D
When I came here I was pretty young and completly, ridiculosly uninformed about pretty much everything. All I had was a desire to learn and a sharp wit.
I have a really good link for the basic principle of communism which I will find and throw at you.
anyways have a good time Kit.

Actually, this is debate-able.
While Ho Chi Minh had socialist sympathies, he later started focusing more on nationalism than anything else. His main purpose, really, was to liberate the Vietnamese from their European oppressors, not to establish a socialist state.
Anyway, welcome to the forums.
If you don't know that much, just read a little on your known and lurk around on the forums for a little bit. That's what I did before starting to post here.

You are on the right path already.
Music: Kings Of Leon, Nirvana, The Pixies, The Breeders, Weezer, REM, The Clash, Metallica, The Sex Pistols and some others I can't quite think of.
Well, what I recognize is good stuff ;)
Donnie Darko is a good movie and I've at least seen the first part of Battle Angel.
Welcome and I wish you well in your learning experience here.
Welcome, welcome. This shall be the grandest day in the history of the board (*continue with other king-like ramblings).
Anyway, the younger you start, the better-off you'll be. Big congrats and a shout-out on my next rap album (to be released the 12th of never).

i think knowledge does cause depression... it would be so nice to go back to being naive .. maybe then i wouldn't be so damned depressed.... but is it better to live ina bubble?

I believe knowlege causes it and prevents it.
No bubbles eventually pop, then you are worse off all-together. If everyone had no idea what was going on; who would fix the world's problems?
No, we must all wake up! Maybe some day we should be so lucky as to be free enough to indulge in naive notions.
None of my knowledge of social reality has ever made me feel "depressed". I find it very empowering to know that I recognize the ways in which I'm being screwed and how to oppose and overcome them.

Well....Ignorance is bliss, but if we were all ignorant we'd all die...Inocence would be nice too...But if we were all inocent and "free from sin" if you're christian, then equeally, tehre would be no future. The suffering of few must benefit the many, which is where communism could help with the suffering of none benefiting everyone for the combined power that doing only what you can could do to the world. Kinda.

Well, people are now posting along the lines of what I posted.
I find it hard to believe that knowing about social injustice has never been a burden on you. It has at times felt like more than I can bear but it seems to be something you learn to deal with. Yes, it is empowering, afteral you cannot make any informed choices in your life if you don't know how it is effected.
