http://www.rwor.org/a/v20/960-69/966/prhist.htm Puerto rico has no taxes but there is something even worse, people has been drafted and used in all the wars U$A starts there are even people that has served the army since they turn 18 just because that is the only job they can get,I have 1 uncle and 4 Couzins in iraq simply for a draft law forcing people to fight for their *country* in times of war the goverment and voting system is controled by the U$A and the UN totally ignores the crimes they do against the workers and people that wants independence for their true homeland.
even if we had the world against us we will get our freedom or die trying Viva Puerto Rico Libre!

I feel sorry for you and your family.
A guy I know went to Iraq. He was against the war, but got 23 confirmed kills :(
I just can't get why he didn't refuse. I guess it is about fear of authority.
He had a friend that was shot in the head, not by the enemy, but by friendly fire. The army refused to sing his favorite song when he was burried.
Were they against, or pro war? I would sure as hell refuse to go to war for a cause I was against. I just think it's a shame that young boys and girls don't refuse to kill people, for a cause they don't believe in.

Some need the money, people can't really act 100% for their beliefs in a capitalist society when every decision is affected by money. Only if you are lucky and rich could you do that.

Rejecting the Blood Tax
Under intense attacks, and with much of their leadership in prison, the remaining Nationalists continued to struggle. World War 2 soon broke out, and thousands of Puerto Rican men were ordered into the military. On President Franklin Roosevelt's orders, steps were taken to create the world's largest naval base on the eastern side of the island.
The Nationalists denounced the military draft as a colonial "blood tax" on their people. They organized the island's youth to resist the draft. This consistent anti-imperialism was considered shocking--even by many leftists of the time--and the Nationalists were even accused of being "pro-fascist" for refusing to join the U.S. imperialist military.
Scores of young Puerto Rican draft resisters were actually condemned to federal prisons. Many suffered extreme punishments. Some were even killed. Their stand inspired future generations--and helped give birth to the powerful movement of draft resistance that grew up in Puerto Rico during the Vietnam War.
