Not at all surprising, the leadership of all of the former Soviet central Asian nations is comprised of dictators and Uzbekistan is no different. Recently there has been a surge of anti-governmnet opposition there. Thanks for finding this Skeptic, I wish the American media would cover stories like this and let the American public know what kinds of things are supposed friends are doing.

Unfortunately that is not news to me. The U$ and Russia seem to have a liking for ruthless middle-Asian dictators like those in Uzbekistan and Krygistan.
If only the American public knew just how hypocritical their government was, maybe the world would be a better place. How can anyone support a government that calls for Saddam to be deposed because he tortures his people, yet activly support other torturous regimes? This really proves that the war was for oil.

Of course. These are the only types of regimes the U.S. will ever support.

Recently Uzbekistan fell out of favour with the Bush administration and lost a lot of Aid, so maybe the title should be 'Bush's Old Friend Boilds People Alive'

That's disgusting. I'm getting more and more used to pictures like these, but it's still VERY uncomfortable watching. I wonder what the cappies would say about this. They should at least stop blaiming Saddam or whatever for what he did. They should start with themselves, before they pick on others.
To the others at the forum:
I advice you not to look at it. It's nothing exciting to see. It's just sick.

No. The U$ has only temporarily cooled their relations with the Uzbeks because of the British ambassador calling them a "fascist regime" and exposing the boiling alive (I think those pictures come from him)

Yet again, enlightening stories such as this are swept under the carpet in favor off the usual "we good, they bad" stories.

This news does not surprise or even shock me I'm afraid to say, I realised quite a while ago that the Empire is capable of anything, and can get away with anything.

Government officials supporting torturous dictators; it's no big surprise and it won't end with bush.

<edit> well, it might end with Nader.

Nader took money from "Citzens for a Sound Economy" and swept it under the rug, murderous bastards just like this one. What planet are you on anyway?

I find disgusting how our "president" makes allies with these horrible dictators that have proven acts of crimes against humanity. His most famous of course is with his good oil-loving buddies, the Saudis. His interests with this digusting country is all about the $(which most of his acts seem to be about). Absolutely horrible...
