The Feral Underclass

Of course it was a ridiculous film, extremly corny and I liked the way the Last Sumarai was actally american...needless to say I enjoyed it, and I have decided to be Sumarai when I grow up...
...I think there is beauty in honor, really!
What are peoples thoughts about it?
I was reluctant to watch the movie because
....Tom Cruise..Samurai....
give me a break.
But I really enjoyed it

It taught me that after getting shot 5 times in the chest, as long as I have samurai armor on, I will be OK...

hahaha. Are those cartoons true to the plot? sounds like a good one. Typical The Anarchist Tension film, I suspect.

once i suspended my disbelief that an alcoholic american was the last samurai i enjoyed the movie. i heard that its based on some actual dude who went to japan to train the meij army but decided to fight with the samurai. anyone know if this is true or not?

I thought it was a great movie, especially the theme about Cruise eventually siding with his former enemies after discovering that they were in the right.
My favorite part is where he gorges his old captain
<edit> the word impale was changed to gorge

I think the alcahol played an important part of his character traits, it showed that the character was so ashamed of what he had done with his army that he had to drink to escape the pain. I wish more American soldiers had that kind of concience.

Ok, give credit where credit is due. You totally stole that from one of the black comedians on a skit from Chappelle Show. I saw that episode where they asked a black dude about what he thought of The Last Samurai, and he said "I'll make a movie called "The Last Nigga on Earth" starring Tom Hanks."

That movie was the biggest heap of superficial shit ever! The ONLY believable character in it was the master samurai guy (forget his name), and the only thing I garnered from it was a greater respect for those who opposed the Meiji restoration....that and a greater respect for some aspects of Zen phillosophy. I particularly liked the quote about searching your entire life for the perfect blossom.
The novelty value of a real life "Samurai" village, and people using amazing katana techniques (they were mostly all ledgends of the Kendo circuit) wore off very quickly!

This movie was awesome. But I'd much rather be a Ninja then a Samurai.
