I believe a thread might have been started on the topic of gay marrriage and civil unions before, but Bush has now proposed a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage (I'm sure you've heard). It's eerie how the prophecies of Orwell are being fulfilled so quickly. Before you know it, the U.S. constitution will simply read:
"All men are created equal, but some are more equal than others."
Anyway, does anybody think this amendment will actually be passed? And if it is, do you plan to leave the U.S. or stay and protest?

The constitution has only been amended three times in the entire history of the United States. The first time was the prohibition of alcohol, then the right for women to vote and finally to repeal of prohibition. I doubt this will pass the Senate, as the Senate Dems have some more liberal members (Edward Kennedy, Hillary Clinton) than their counter parts in the house. Remember, to add an amendment to the constitution it must pass by a TWO THIRDS majority vote, thus making nearly impossible to do.

I seriously hope it doesn't pass, it will merely show what a poor state U$ democracy is really in! The American people must be fuming that Bush even said it let alone trying to implicate it! This is sickness at it's highest and how Blair could ever allow himself to be a lapdog to such a facisct is beyond me! What next? Is he gonna try and stop the people of Florida voting?!? Hang on, he's already done that one, old hat eh Mr President! ;)

Gay marriage is rather a symbolic gesture more than the end of gay oppression. It is important the gay people be given the same rights as straight people because it begins to break down the idea that homosexuality is something that should not be tolerated by society.
George Bush is a right wing christian, there is absolutly no suprise that he wants to make gay marriage illegal. I am sure if him and his cronies had their way they would ban homosexuality all together.

Would be tricky as I am already married and not that way inclined, plus all my Homosexual friends say they wouldn't touch me with a barge pole, harsh I thought!
I think this is a ridculous statement and somehow implies that we condone it as long as they are not within 10 feet of us! We condone it because it is there right as human beings to have the same things everybody else has! It's called equality not empathy!!
