After having been fortunate enough to get a teacher's sponsorship at our school me and a comrade have been able to found a "Leftist Union". He's drawing up flyers and posters at the moment and I've been dumped with drawing up a decent program for the group. We intend to have discussions on current affairs and such as well as some stuff on leftist theory to push far left thoughts on to people each week and also to get involved in campaigns to get people active.

So does anyone have any decent ideas/material that we could use or potential campaigns that would work well in a High School?

Snag is, I'm a Marxist and my comrade only considers himself to be a "Social Democrat". He's still far left though but I may have to compromise with him.

That's awesome that you even found enough people to be willing to start that. I'd like to get something like this started at my school, but this place is full of the sons and daughters of rich white Republicans who think just like their fathers and pastors at the local christian hang out. The "leftists" that we do have are all "anarchists" who preach "anarchy" but don't know what the fuck that means besides "fuck the government!".

I don't know what kind of "campaigns" would work well in a high school though. They're expulsion happy here at mine.

The Church is reactionary as Capitalism and the state as it has become a
tool of the big Capitalists to maintain their Control over the Masses. I'm
Not Going to tolerate that. And for these "Anarchists" - They may have
reach a deeper understanding of what Anarchy is.

Faceless - This is good. I hope your leftist Union works all for the best.

Unlucky but I know how you feel to some extent. Going to a grammar school there are a lot of rich kids whose parents tutored them through the exams so we have our fair share of rich right-wing wankers.

You can do some things if there are a lot of Christians. If there is a Christian Group you can terrorise them. We did it and eventually got banned but it was a lot of fun. I spose you could work with the anarchists but those types tend to be all talk.

we have an amnesty international chapter at our school, the biggest thing we did this year was the day of silence. this year was kind of a drag because not very many people were commited to it. i'm hoping next year me and my equally far left friend can actually make it into something big. some stuff that we did my freshman year was plan trips to protests, put ads and articles in the school newspaper and commercials on the school news. We also put up posters and flyers around the school, we've tried setting up schoolwide debates but they fell through. i'm sorta in the same situation as you

I just graduated and for 2 years we had a "Peace Club" which was a just a fun way of saying "leftist Club" Our biggest event was a sit in which drew about 30 kids in a school of like, 700 kids. We had it on the day before the anniversary of the invasion of Iraq and we sat for about 2 hours, and each earned a bunch of discliplinary action which was just a bunch of bs. All in all, with the principal staring at us and threatening each newcomer with the penalty of skiping class, etc., i was impressed with how many people stuck it out despite that.

Another important thing is to keep the group very open. Keep your doors open to kids with a socialist or even progressive and democratic attitude because their opinions might change in the face of your reason. I wasn't born a commie, and neither were they. Many people will show up if you have a specific agenda (anti- war, anti- poverty, etc.) adn they can become great contributers.
