I've recently started to listen to Indian music, in particular banghra and Bollywood movie songs; I find that the music styles can be both exiting and peaceful at the same time.
Does anyone else listen to this type of music? And if so, do you have any favourites that you can reccommend? At the moment I just seem to be sampling different types and don't really remember any specific singes.

Bollywood is a term used for the Indian film industry. There's this city in India called Bombai where they produce more movies than any city in the world.
I used to joke that even though the produced more movies than any city in the world, the quaility was probably not as good as that of the developed world. But after seeing Monsoon Wedding and Bandit Queen, I'd never say that again, as they are two of the best movies I've ever seen.

I strongly urge you to listen to listen to Vishwa Mohan Bhatt if you like that kind of music, then you'll love Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. You may also really like Harry Manx. An indian influence with a folk twist is 60's english songwriter Vashti Bunyan.

Yeah I got into alot of Bhangra and "Golly Bolly" (bollywood pop) not that long ago.
Malkit Singh is the king of Bhangra, so I strongly suggest checking him out!
Also I noticed that you posted a pic for one of the "Rough Guide" cds. I have bought a few of these, and find them to be extremely "rough" and a little hit and miss. They almost never include the best cuts from the artists featured on the cd. but that's something else alltogether.
Yeah Monsoon Wedding is a fantastic movie, they play alot of Bollywood and Egyptian cinema on a TV station here called SBS. I love them! :D

A few years ago I bought a CD entitled "Music from the Tea Lands" out of curiosity. I soon can to be entranced by and fascinated with the traditional music of India. It was created by Putumayo, a company that has many different CD of world music including, but in no way limited to arabic, blues, and reggae music. If you're really into Indian Music, check out the stuff by Ravi Shankar-the world's foremost player and composer of Sitar music and Ali Akbar Kahn- master of the Sarode. Everything in bold is for suggested internet or other searches. I hope this helps in the diversification of your musical interests.
