I've recently listening to alot of Fugazi, just wondering if anyone else likes 'em? I had a chance to see them in Brighton last time they were down but I missed it on account of being on holiday, bit irritating because I would have loved to have seen them.

Are they leftys? A few of their lyrics hinted towards this and I can remember Tom Morrello mentioning there politicalness (is that a word) in an interview.

yea man. Fugazi's good. in terms of their politics, that's a good question. I've heard they're left. (and i see that, because i've heard none of their music that says their right-wing). I've never sat down and thought about their politics, but w/e.

I love them (I've got The Arguement). Ian Macaye (sp?) was in Minor threat, and I think Rites of Spring as well, but I'm not 100% certain on that one. He's a dude. I'm sure they're lefties, although not in an anti-flag or ratm kind of way.

If you like Fugazi you'll probably love FEAR I cant' remember if it was Ian Macckaye's band or his brothers though I have a feeling it was his brothers.

I bought Minor Threat's first demo 7" the other day but it doesn't work, I would feel ripped off but I didn't pay much for it. Mackaye looks old on the cover (24 or thereabouts) I'm suprised he's still playing.

You guys ever hear those rumours that seem to come out ever once in awhile that Ian Mackaye is now a junkie/alcoholic? Not true, but funny nonetheless.

Been a fan ever since they came over and rinsed out Kuala Lumpur in '96.

Fugazi rules, and they seem to be leftists to me. Their lyrics seem to be left leaning, and their cd's never cost more then ten bucks.

#1 Ian MacKaye

#2 Guy Picciotto of Fugazi was in Rites of Spring. Ian MacKaye was in Embrace, who are of a similar style. He was also in Skewbald and a million other DC bands I can't be arsed trying to remember.

#3 Ian MacKaye is the closest I will get to an idol.

#4 He hasn't broken edge.

#5 Minor Threat were never completely straight edge. Moreover, the guitarist (whose name I forget...but he was in Dag Nasty) did a fanzine interview in which he said that being straight edge was not about complete abstention from drugs but about not forming drug habits.

#6 He's more left wing than Anti-Flag. And I don't even think he's left wing.

#7 No more Fugazi threads. Please.

why no more Fugazi threads?

The Argument fucking owns as an album, the title track kicks as does pretty much every other song on it?

There's been maybe 10 since I signed up here. I'm sick of explaining who Ian fucking MacKaye is.

I haven't heard much by Fugazi, but since the guy from Minor Threat is in it I will definatly check out more stuff by them.

Wow, GR, and there's me thinking you get pissed off with every post I make since you're always correcting me! :P

And when I mentioned Anti-flag it wasn't meaning they were reall left-wing, it was more to do with putting politics blatently into every song, which Fugazi don't seem to do.

They invented the word with the song Straight Edge. But they never intended it to become a popculture for selfrightous kids as it did.

Wow, I never made the connection that Lyle was also in Dag Nasty, I learned something, thank you GR.

Ian McKaye is quite a liberal, so it's up to you guys to decide whether he's left o not. One thing is for sure, and that is that he looks old. Has anyone seen that fairly recent issue of Punk Planet with the long interview (with Ian) ?

Ahhh the sweeping generalisations about straight edge from kids who are fucking stupid. Do you actually know any edge kids?? ("Yeah this guy in my class blah blah blah" shut up) Do you know anything about hardcore?? I do.

I fucking love the fact that junkies the world over are so threatened by straight edge. Fuck them. Fuck every **** who disses straight edge.

Yeah all the formative hardcore/emo bands share members (there's a lot of info on members of various bands on the Dischord site). Dag Nasty's vocalist, Dave Smalley, was in my (probably) favourite 79-83 hardcore band, DYS. He then went on to sing for bullshit bands like All and Down By Law. And he's a self-proclaimed Conservative. So Dave Smalley post-1985 (circa) can fuck off.
