I may be over-posting in this thread, but I'd just like to ask peoples opinion (Hatty, Alan, Mr. White), on how this compares to other Converge albums, in particular Jane Doe (being their last and all).
Yo I already fuckin asked for no comparisons. I've listened to this maybe 5 times, whereas I've listened to "Jane Doe", "Petitioning" etc upwards of 500 times (probably) and I'm still new discovering new avenues to explore, new ways in which to experience the feeling that is Converge.
So far, the standout tracks have been:
First Light/Last Light
Drop Out
Eagles Become Vultures
You Fail Me
I remember the last two being played live in January and March. After 14 years, this band is still evolving, still pushing back the barriers in heavy and emotional music, still transcending classifications like hardcore, metal and emo and making them sound redundant.
It's official: Converge is still the best band in the world.
I'm worried though. Now that they're on Epitaph they're gonna be marketed more relentlessly and cynically. Fuck this bullshit about Brett Guerrwitz being punk, he's a fucking sell out like the rest of 'em. Look out for Converge adverts on digital music channels. Look out for Converge on the front cover of Kerrang. Look out for Converge playing the 1500 capacity venue in your town that has barriers 10 yards from the stage and security who'll kick you out for dancing. Look out for the smelly ****s wearing Converge teeshirts under their Korn hoodies and Criminal Damage jeans. These dicks don't fucking get Converge, but they will act like they do and it's your fucking duty to ignore that bullshit and listen to "Jane Doe", "The Poacher Diaries" and yes, fucking "You Fail Me" and GET IT.
