For the first time ever I just had a look at the che-lives store and was disgusted at how exploitative it seemed, cheap and shoddy. Why do we have this on the site are we not the few who should know or at least strive for better? This is not respectful to the man.

you know...if it weren't for many people, you wouldnt be posting here as well...right?

Truth is, Che wouldnt approve with half the shit ppl do...but so what? He was a man...u think Jesus would approve of things we do today? hell no!

The point is this...ppl best exemplify their beliefs, their political views through display. Why read Che's book on guerilla warfare or any of his writings if it is for a capitalistic gain?

I own some Che shirts and am reading his bio by Jon Lee Anderson...would Che approve? Probably not...but whatever. I'm not gonna deny knowledge because I'm some anti-capitalist.

Is it right that ppl are marketting Che things? Debatable...but I say yes. It helps spread awarenes...

If i never saw Che Guevara's face on a Rage Against the Machine shirt...I would've never become interested. And that's the truth.

I'd rather buy a Che shirt from the Che lives store than at some mall, at least some of the monet goes to maintaining the site.

It's not as if some giant corporation is profiting by sales from the che-lives store.

I wonder... woud he approve of his face being used on Pesos? I think not.

I personally would like to see the whole thing thrown away, but since so many people set store by 'images' I'd no doubt be called a heretic for such an action. The truth of the matter is that we live in a capital society (this site is hosted in Germany if I remember correctly) and as such every single word you type is costing someone something.

I'm trying to track Malte down (if you are listening) to make a donation to the site, but I don't like the idea of 'memorabilia' at all - in any form. It simply becomes more apparent when the face being sold is that of a famous anti-imperialist.

true. Nice explanation, knowledge.
The store does benefit the site, as someone else has said. Beats blowing money away at Hot Profit or some ridiculous "fashion spot"

Without the store, the site would lose a large chunk of it's means of staying up. If it came down to "buying merchendize from a comrade who would use the money to keep the site" and "seeing the site crumble", I'd take the former EVERY time.

Would you then agree that the Shoddy Beret and Warhol shirt are disrespectful and if they are going to be done then they should be done with care/consideration?

wasnt Che writing an autobiography before he died?

In Anderson's bio it makes reference to that many times...so dont u think he'd WANT ppl to get educated about him?

I am sure Che wouldn't mind knowing that his face is printed in shirts and sold in order to profit for something which supports his causes. If he knows about this, he would be very proud.
