What really happened in Jenin?
There Palestinians say that hundreds have been massacred in the Jenin Refugee Camp. There are numerous reports in both the Independent and Guardian Newspapers where reporters have interviewed many fleeing survivors from the camp, and they claim that many atrocities have been committed in that closed military zone. The following is an account of those atrocities by one survivor, which I read in the Independent two days ago.
"I saw it with my own eyes. I saw people bleeding to death in the streets. I saw a 10-year old child lying dead. There was a big hole in his side and his arm has been blown away. I saw them buey the bodies. They started work on the mass grave a few days ago. I recognised some of the bodies in it. I can give you names."
" A woman wit her leg all but ripped off by a helicopter rocket, the mangled remains hanging on by a thread of skin as she slowly bleeds to death. A mother shot in the head when she ran into the street to scream for help her dying son."
These are just a few of the scenes described by the survivors. Journalists have not been able to confirm their stories, because the Israeli army has gone to extraordinary lengths to stop anyone -reporters, aid workers or international officials. One after another, international officials, angered by Israeli's rampant violations of the Fourth Geneva Convention and the human misery that has resulted, confined to the independent yesterday that they had reached the inevitable conclusion: a crime has been committed which Israel is trying to cover up.
Of course unlike the suicide bombing which had a lot of TV coverage, none of the news broadcasters have covered this in details. Instead, they interview several eloquent Israeli ministers and zionists in america and get their reaction on the "horrible murder of innocent jews" while completely ignoring this massacre. As Robert Fisk commented, it is time for Europe to realise that the pro-israeli american government and its people are morally incompetent to broker a fair and humane deal between the two sides. And surely, the first step that ought to be taken is the introduction of International (not american) peacekeeping forces in the region, who at least would have the military force to deal with the tyrant Isrealis.

actually, 1 CNN reporter went into Jenin, but was soon kicked out.. they werent aloud to go in..
he was saying that he met a women who told him israelis where throwing grenades into houses, and he saw the bodies in the house across the street.. he then saw a man shot in the head with a pale of water in his hands.. the few people left in the city told him that he was getting water for his garden when a sniper shot him dead..
this isnt "Jewish-owned America"
no here supports racism.. and all "Jewish" people are not responsable for this.. blame the Israeli goverment, not the people..

The Israeli's shelled and bombed the camp claiming they were trying to root out Palestinian terrorists and were not trying to injure civilians but with over 150,000 people living in an area the size of a square kilometre, there was no way they could of not had a large civilian death toll so the bombings were a deliberate attack on innocent civilians.

Yes, there are some pro Israel zionists here in New York, however it is ignorant to paint all Jewish people with the same brush.
As Reuben said, you sound like David Duke, and your forming your opinions on the Jewish people from a few pro Israeli people you may see on tv, or from propaganda.
Also, even among the Jews who tend to be in support of Israel, only a very small fraction here in the United States are in support of this war on Palistine.

According to Reuters,"Secretary of State Colin Powell said on Monday a Middle East peace conference, proposed by Israel, could take place at ministerial level and did not necessarily require Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's presence." Why is it that Sharon, an unpopular leader with the Arab nations can meet but Yasser Arafat does not have to be there? This only shows US-backing of Israel as a spolied child. You might as well give Sharon a lollipop like a big baby. Someone should go and destroy those settlements. Those people have no right being there!

The Israeli soldiers claim that no aid workers or journalists are allowed inside the camp out of their own safety, because "Palestinians have placed booby traps on the entrances". This story doesn't wash with me, and it seems quite obvious what is going on. The last time journalists were not allowed in an area of international attention was Pristina, Kosovo, right before the bombing raids started in 1999. That was because Milosevic was about to have all the KLA fighters and ethnic Albanians beaten up. There seems to be a similar situation here...

The IDF has already begun carting off the bodies of the dead from Jenin. Supposedly the civilian casualties are to be handed over to the Palestinians and the "gunmen" (and i use that term very cautiously) are to be taken and buried in Israel Proper..........hmmmmmmmm sounds to me that the IDF has something to hide......... Am I the only one who finds it peculiar that the Israelis are removing the bodies of the dead "gunman" totaly out of Palestinian controlled areas and burying them themselves in Israeli areas of the Jordan Valley???? I am no Einstein but if you ask me ........ this dispicable revelation should be ringing alarm bells in the international community that a MASSACRE, and not a "preventitive security measure", took place in the U.N. sponsered refugee camp in Jenin. In the United States public opinion, political support, sympathy and funding is overwhelmingly pro-israeli............ The American public has been duped throughout the years by poloticians PURCHASED by the AIPAC( zionist lobby in the united states) and the zionist contorolled media. They are winning the war by keeping the public blind to the issues at hand and the real causes of the violence. Through their "Spins" on the truth and total manipulation of the accounts of the events unfolding in the seige of the west bank and Historicaly significant events of years past....... Neither the U.S. media or the U.S. Government (Legislative and Executive Branches) have the right to deem themselves honest brokers. The American people have been force fed the term "terrorist" for decades now.................. but its not so much the word terrorist that is misleading......its the context in which it is used.......... over the years........it has been used by the Powers That Be to brainwash the masses.....by engraining in the minds of American's that Palestinians,Arabs, and in fact the entire Muslim Community are "TERRORISTS".............. you tell me who the terrorist is? Is it the Freedom fighter? Or is it the Occupier? ............... what people fail to realize is that this war of attrition is not about religion .....or the Muslim World Vs. The West...........its about OCCUPATION.....INTIMIDATION.....STRIPPED DIGNITY......DEPORTATION........AND A TWO CLASS SYSTEM THAT IN MY OPIONION IS WORSE THAN ANYTHING THAT WAS SEEN IN SOUTH AFRICA DURING THE YEARS UNDER APARTHEID. I dont know how it is over in Europe right now.......but it just drives me insane when I watch what is being broadcasted in the states.......... and the sad part is......... nobody in America realizes that "The Land of the Free Home Of the Brave" and all its FREE SPEACH ........means nothing.......... It is a big lie.......... its freaking 1984 over here...........................VICTORY TO THE BRAVE FIDAIA OF THE INTIFADA...........VICTORY TO PALESTINE..........VICTORY TO THE WAYS OF GOOD OVER EVIL.............. VICTORY TO TRUTH.........TILL NEXT TIME COMRADES

I heard in the news that the Israeli Supreme Court has ordered that the Palestinian bodies be handed over to their families and not to be buried by the Israeli government. They also ruled that Red Cross workers must be allowed in with the soldiers to search for the dead so that the death toll is official and not one made by the Israelis. At the moment according to Israeli figures, only 40 bodies have been found and the majority of them were 'gunmen'.

I know it's a terrible right-wing rag (I don't get it throuh choice, my parents are staunch Tories), but it appears to have its uses:
THE DAILY TELEGRAPH - BLASTED TO RUBBLE BY THE ISRAELIS by David Blair in Jenin refugee camp
(Filed: 16/04/2002)
"ISRAEL'S onslaught on the Palestinian refugee camp in Jenin has led to the systematic devastation of once teeming streets inhabited by 15,000 people.
Inside the camp, a vast open space 400 yards by 400 yards has been pounded, blasted and ground to rubble by tanks, helicopters and bulldozers.
For more than a week a ring of tanks and armoured cars has kept journalists and aid workers from the scene of the largest operation by the Israeli forces against Palestinian areas of the West Bank.
When we penetrated into the exclusion zone yesterday, by walking across a hilltop and finding an unguarded flank, it became clear why the Israelis had done their utmost to shield Jenin camp from prying eyes.
The camp, still a closed zone, lies in the heart of Jenin Town that once consisted of tightly packed flat-roofed houses. All but a few streets have been blown apart.
In the Harat al-Hawashin area, which has been worst hit, the streets have ceased to exist, with half of the area dipping into a large crater strewn with wreckage.
All the paraphernalia of normal life littered the ground: lavatory paper, shoe boxes, sanitary towels, buckets, crockery, chairs and clothes.
Hanging over everything was the sickly smell of rotting corpses, an unknown number of which lay under the rubble. The reek of cordite blended with an intense burning smell almost like the scent of baking bread.
The scale of the destruction suggested that the Israelis had used more than tanks, helicopters and bulldozers. Demolition charges may also have been laid to raze Harat al-Hawashin.
Dazed people gathered around what remained of their homes. Riad Hussain, 30, saw a house receive a direct hit from a rocket fired by an Apache attack helicopter. The women and baby inside were killed.
Sixteen-year-old Fahdi Jamir, who lives on the edge of the worst devastation, said he saw seven arms and legs among the rubble.
Kamal Anis, 28, said he saw an Israeli bulldozer scooping up 30 bodies and dumping them beside a ruined house. It knocked down the building, covering the corpses with rubble. It then drove over the pile, levelling it into a crude mass grave.
Standing at the point where Mr Anis said this had occurred, the stench of death was overpowering. Furious people vented their anger at Israel and, in particular, Ariel Sharon, the prime minister.
"Murder, this is murder," Rajeb Ahmed said. "Sharon is a murderer."
Last night, in an interview with CNN, Mr Sharon said that his forces might withdraw from Jenin in a couple of days and from Nablus in "not more than a week".
But he gave no timetable for leaving Ramallah, where Yasser Arafat, the Palestinian leader, has been penned in his compound for four months.
In the fighting in Jenin, the home of many of the Palestinian suicide bombers who have terrorised Israelis in the past year, the Israeli security forces suffered their heaviest casualties in the two-week-long operation in the West Bank. They included 13 killed in a single ambush.
The Israeli forces say that about 70 Palestinians died in Jenin. The extent of the destruction indicates that the Palestinian estimate of hundreds may be more accurate.
Inside one house, now reduced to a shell, the wall was blackened by fire and scarred by machine gun bullets.
The smell of cordite hung over a twisted, scorched object that appeared to have been flung into a corner. There was a foot, a leg and a face, all burned beyond recognition.
A man named only as Bashar once lived there, in the heart of the refugee camp.
Mr Bashar lay yards from the remains of Ashraf Abu Hija, 23, in an adjoining room. He was buried in rubble to his head and shoulders.
Both men died when their home was destroyed by an incendiary shell fired from an Israeli tank.
The surrounding streets presented a scene of utter destruction. Every house in al-Awdi street has been torn apart by bullets, tank shells, rockets and heavy calibre machine guns.
Whole sides of cars have penetrated walls, scattering rubble over every patch of ground. Concrete has become mixed with earth, broken glass with blackened brick, four mattresses with 20mm cartridge cases, leaking gas cylinders with glinting shrapnel.
The reaction to the Israelis' operation, billed as a counter terrorism campaign, suggested that it might prove counter-productive.
Jamal Mohammed, 45, said: "We hate the Israelis more now."
Pointing at his eight-year-old son, Mr Mohammed added: "This child has seen what has happened. Now he will hate the Israelis."
Nearby, five bodies, grotesquely charred and twisted, lay in the rubble. Jenin camp is full of fearful faces.
Inside a bullet-scarred house, partially demolished by a bulldozer, were seven-year-old Araj and Sobhia, nine. The sisters were neatly dressed in blue and pink outfits, with bows in their hair. Their eyes were attentive.
Neither knew that their father was dead. A family friend said that Israeli soldiers had stripped him to his underwear, pushed him against a wall and shot him.
His death had been reported over the radio, yet the girls' relatives had been unable to tell them the news.
Araj and Sobhia sat in the corner talking quietly to their mother, Nadira Hazawi, 30. She was also unaware of her husband's fate.
Indira Abdullah Harq, 34, a family friend, said: "She is very ill. We cannot tell her about her husband."
The family was living on a diet of rice. The curfew imposed by the Israeli army has prevented food from reaching the camp, while all water and electricity supplies have been cut off.
As machinegun fire echoed outside, the frightened girls huddled together for comfort."

Both me and punkrawker and moskitto criticized your response. It was quite clear from our responses that both of us were by know means attacking your anti-zionism. Instead we were attacking your ethnically specific attacks which harked back to the age old Jewish Conspiracy theory of jewish money power and jews owning america. this is a theory long perpetuated by facscists.

Reuben--
I am brown and proud hispanic. What I MEANT in my comment was that the US has a tendency to always bring down the brown man. Just like in Palestine, because they are Arabs no one here gives a crap. Just like in latin america, there is immense poverty there but unless the US has an interest there no one cares. In black neighborhoods there are liquor stores in every corner. I think YOU misinterpreted my remark. I am not racist by the least bit. Maybe I am anti-Israel because I know what it is like to live like those people and to struggle against the establishment. I hate what they are doing there and with the disrespect that they have given those people for years and if I could go there and help them I would!

hmm, yes, I still do not see what you have just said is relevant to your comments on 'Jewish owned america'. you may not be aware that the idea of jewish owned america was invented by facists.
the main point is that this rests on the racist assertion that jew=zionist and that the problem is not the influential zionists but the traditional scapegoat of the "the influential" jews. this thnically specific attack is unacceptable.
I sympathise with your plight, and I also no what it is like to live as part of an ethnic minority and suffer racism here in Britain, but attacking another ethnic minority will not help the palestinians

I think it's damn obvious they're lying (the Israelis). Last week, a general admitted that there were several hundred dead. A few hours later, an IDF spokesman claimed that what the general 'really' meant was that there are 'several hundred dead AND wounded. Then it became 100 dead & several hundred wounded, then seventy dead, and the most recent account claimd it's only dozens dead. I really think that the Israelis believe that the public have the same memory capacity as fish (i.e. 5 seconds). It is an insult to our intelligence.
One more thing, it is ridiculous how israel breaks one international law after the other and yet always gets away with it. If this was Iraq or Afghanistan, they would've both been nuked to oblivion by now. I think they should have 2 sets of rules, one for Israel, and one for the 'REST'.

Yeah derar, I agree that America does have many influential political zionists of all ethnic backgrounds including many wasps.
However I think the main reason for US involvement is wanting to promote their own interests.
Chuba cupra, i cannot understand why you refuse to answwer any points and basically pretend that we said something we didnt.
You were criticized by several people including myself for making an ethnically specific attack on jews which was based on conspiracy theory stuff. I also argued that you equated jew=zionist
All you have done is responded as if you were being critisized for being anti-zionist when it was quite clear that you were not .
you asked " why do you think the americans arent helping arafat?"
well as I said above, the US has interests in Israel, and there are influential zionists. I agree on this so does everyone. but Bush's cabinet does not even contain a single jew. Why can you not blame zionists in general rather making ethnic attacks and promoting conspiracy theory crap
fuck israel,

During the war with the Taliban I had been sending clothes to the Afghani people. I come from Nicaragua, and am Latin so please do not think I am a racist. I have seen many injustices like what they are doing to the Palestinians in Latin America. Amid the ruins of Jenin, the grisly evidence of a war crime
Phil Reeves in Jenin
16 April 2002
Ann Clwyd: Europe must show its mettle and punish Israel
A monstrous war crime that Israel has tried to cover up for a fortnight
has finally been exposed. Its troops have caused devastation in the
centre of the Jenin refugee camp, reached yesterday by The Independent,
where thousands of people are still living amid the ruins.
A residential area roughly 160,000 square yards about a third of a mile
wide has been reduced to dust. Rubble has been shovelled by bulldozers
into 30ft piles. The sweet and ghastly reek of rotting human bodies is
everywhere, evidence that it is a human tomb. The people, who spent days
hiding in basements crowded into single rooms as the rockets pounded in,
say there are hundreds of corpses, entombed beneath the dust, under a
field of debris, criss-crossed with tank and bulldozer treadmarks.
In one nearby half-wrecked building, gutted by fire, lies the fly-blown
corpse of a man covered by a tartan rug. In another we found the remains
of 23-year-old Ashraf Abu Hejar beneath the ruins of a fire-blackened
room that collapsed on him after being hit by a rocket. His head is
shrunken and blackened. In a third, five long-dead men lay under blankets.
A quiet. sad-looking young man called Kamal Anis led us across the
wasteland, littered now with detritus of what were once households, foam
rubber, torn clothes, shoes, tin cans, children's toys. He suddenly
stopped. This was a mass grave, he said, pointing.
We stared at a mound of debris. Here, he said, he saw the Israeli
soldiers pile 30 bodies beneath a half-wrecked house. When the pile was
complete, they bulldozed the building, bringing its ruins down on the
corpses. Then they flattened the area with a tank. We could not see the
bodies. But we could smell them.
A few days ago, we might not have believed Kamal Anis. But the
descriptions given by the many other refugees who escaped from Jenin
camp were understated, not, as many feared and Israel encouraged us to
believe, exaggerations. Their stories had not prepared me for what I saw
yesterday. I believe them now.
Until two weeks ago, there were several hundred tightly-packed homes in
this neighbourhood called Hanat al-Hawashim. They no longer exist.
Around the central ruins, there are many hundreds of half-wrecked homes.
Much of the camp ? once home to 15,000 Palestinian refugees from the
1948 war ? is falling down. Every wall is speckled and torn with bullet
holes and shrapnel, testimony of the awesome, random firepower of Cobra
and Apache helicopters that hovered over the camp.
Building after building has been torn apart, their contents of cheap
fake furnishings, mattresses, white plastic chairs spewed out into the
road. Every other building bears the giant, charred, impact mark of a
helicopter missile. Last night there were still many families and
weeping children still living amid the ruins, cut off from the
humanitarian aid. Ominously, we found no wounded, although there was a
report of a man being rescued from beneath ruins only an hour before we
arrived.
Those who did not flee the camp, or not detained by the army, have spent
the bombardment in basements, enduring day after day of terror. Some
were forced into rooms by the soldiers, who smashed their way into
houses through the walls. The UN says half of the camp's 15,000
residents were under 18. As the evening hush fell over these killing
fields, we could suddenly hear the children chattering. The mosques,
once so noisy at prayer time, were silent.
Israel was still trying to conceal these scenes yesterday. It had
refused entry to Red Cross ambulances for nearly a week, in violation of
the Geneva Convention. Yesterday it continued to try to keep us out.
Jenin, in the northern end of the occupied West Bank, remained "a closed
military zone", was ringed Merkava tanks, army Jeep patrols, and
armoured personnel carriers. Reporters caught trying to get in were
escorted out. A day earlier the Israeli armed forces took in a few
selected journalists to see sanitised parts of the camp. We simply
walked across the fields, flitted through an olive orchard overlooked by
two Israeli tanks, and into the camp itself.
We were led in by hands gesturing at windows. Hidden, whispering people
directed us through narrow alleys they thought were clear. When there
were soldiers about, a finger would raise in warning, or a hand waved us
back. We were welcomed by people desperate to tell what had occurred.
They spoke of executions, and bulldozers wrecking homes with people
inside. "This is mass murder committed by Ariel Sharon," Jamel Saleh,
43, said. "We feel more hate for Israel now than ever. Look at this
boy." He placed his hand on the tousled head of a little boy, Mohammed,
the eight-year-old son of a friend. "He saw all this evil. He will
remember it all." So will everyone else who saw the horror of Jenin
refugee camp. Palestinians who entered the camp yesterday were almost
speechless.
Rajib Ahmed, from the Palestinian Energy Authority, came to try to
repair the power lines. He was trembling with fury and shock. "This is
mass murder. I have come here to help by I have found nothing but
devastation. Just look for yourself." All had the same message: tell the
world.

In response to the immense human tragedy in the West Bank and Gaza, the
Palestinian American Women's Association of Washington, D.C., (PAWA) is
launching a drive for Blankets Palestine. Due to the massive destruction of
homes and household articles by the Israeli military which has resulted in
unprecedented numbers of homeless people lacking shelter, there is a great
need at this time. All blankets donated will be distributed in Jenin,
Bethlehem, Ramallah, and Nablus. PAWA urgently appeals to all humanitarian
organizations, to churches, mosques, temples and synagogues, and to
individuals of good will for contributions in support of this project. Used
blankets must be clean and in good condition; children's blankets are most
welcome. For more information or to make donations please contact
Nada Samad at 703-847-4694.
American Near East Refugee Aid (ANERA) will be sending the blankets in
a container leaving for the territories in the next few weeks.
If you are joining the April 20th. demonstration at the White house,
please bring your charitable contribution with you. There will be a sign for
(PAWA) there. Time is running out. The shipment leaves in (3) weeks. Please
