Not very much nowadays I think, his movement was generally a failure, the guerilla movements in Latin America have never really harmed capitalism, let alone begin to overthrow it.

that didn't really help so he is failing then maybe some one should go over and guide them?

Marcos' background is a bit of a mystery. It is believed that he was originally an intellectual college student in Mexico who made his way into the land of indigenous Mayans and helped them to form a movement. He keeps his face covered to reveal the universality of the struggle against oppression.

Still, the EZLN today seems to spend more time publicizing themselves rather than actually fighting.

his intention was never to overthrow Capitalism. He wants the land to be given to their rightful owners, he also doesn't affiliate himself with any party or ideology. He's never proclaimed to be Marxist, Communist or anything.

however he is fighting for equality for the mayans?

Yes and at the center of it all a dispute over land that the once was common law, meaning no one owned it and used by the Mayan people, however one of the provisions of NAFTA, which went into affect in 1994 was that no signatory country could hold any common law land because it hindered industrial expansion. At any rate, the land was seized by the Mexican governmnet, who then began to sell it off to various companies.

and thats when the Zapatistas launched their campaign, 1st January 1994 when NAFTA first came into effect.

There is a a clear statement and general concensus among the EZLN that they dont people interfering, not Trots, Leninists etc. The central aim is land reform as it has always been for the Zapatistas movement.
