Well if you know he dosent show his face and then obviously that nobody really knows who he is beyond imagery then how can you say he is seeking fame, being recognized being the fundamental principle of fame.

its impossible that that is marcos... the reason for the mask is not to be recognised, then to be killed, as previous leaders, so i doubt he wants fame and fortune just for himself...

Maybe he wants to get "famous" in order to attract more people to his (or their, whomever they may be) cause.
However I do believe that also his rebel group is corrupted, and that he surely has a lot of self-interest. The conservatives are hearing the black side of this and ignore the white, but most of you only listen to the white and say all black is impossible or plain propaganda. Hard to discuss with a lack of openness...

I just finished reading Our word is our weapon and i realized what marcos is. I talked this over with the EZLN and they have agreed. Subcomandante Marcos is nobody, he is a mascot, a idol, marcos isnt one person. Marcos is all EZLN, he is EZLN. That man you see in the ski-mask is just a actor. The ski-masked, big nosed, white, green-eyed man is not marcos. He is marcos' representitive. If you say that marcos is an anarchist, communist, or etc, your saying that the EZLN is an anarchist, communist, or etc. I will compare marcos to god, some believe god is a white bearded man in heaven, some believe he is heaven. Some believe marcos is a green eyed mexican who is in the zapatistas, some believe he is the zapatista. I believe he is the zapatista. Like Comandante Esther (supposedly the leader of the zapatistas), She was just a lie, there was no comandante esther, she was made up to get people to stop asking who is marcos. Nobody can answer who is marcos. If they ask the EZLN who is marcos, they simply say marcos is the zapatistas. This guy behind the mask is playing the role as marcos. Marcos is 21 years old, the man behind the mask is probably in his middle ages.

oh yea, back to topic, marcos probably wants fame to inform people of the zapatistas.

If he were to try to become rich by what he's doing, he's in the wrong field. Leading a movement of poor oppressed peasants isn't going to make you a wealthy person. And looking for fame? I doubt it. What would fame gain him, especially given the fact that nobody knows what he looks like. It's not like he can be walking down the street and people will stop and say "AY! Eres Subcomandante Marcos!" :D ... I've this theory, actually first from my dad who is Mexican, but I don't believe it. However, I must admit that I haven't seen much progression from the group as of recent. But how much can you get done with a Conservative like Fox as president?

As for that picture, anybody can go around and compare a ski masked figure with a normal pic and say they are the same. Don't buy it.
