View Full Version : What dreams may come...

Actually, i have a very "simple" question to ask regarding dreams.

Last night, I dreamt of a woman. Yes.
The dream was so intense that it was too real to be true, and it was with utter bitterness that I had to be brought back to 'reality' early this morning by some fuckface of a force.

That specific woman, i keep dreaming of her )or maybe a clone of her( every now and then, but i can never EVER remember her face.

it's like an impossible task, and the same goes with almost every noticeably important object or person in my dreams; i can never seem to reconstruct their shapes and forms, only the memory of that object or person persists in my mind, if only for a few hours or days.

Anyways, my question is as follows : what is the reason behind this phenomenon? were you ever able to fully remember one person's facial or body traits, voice smell etc etc in reality as you thought you did in the dream?

Am i smoking too much?

Its normal, I have lucid dreams usually involving people I know very well but always somebody who I vaguely recall from some insignificant part of my life that kind of hangs around and always does the most dramatic thing in my dream. Weird.

Well my very vague answer would be that dreams seem to be based around some kind of symbolism evoked by the repressed parts of your mind, she could perhaps represent your frustration with women, or a woman you want, or the woman you seek but is always out of reach, hence enver being able to define her in your dreams.

Sorry but thats all I can think of.

Dreams are things that you want but you don't really know you wan them. I read that in some book but for some reason i can't find it right now.

There are dreams that we cannot remember because our memory tries to suppress it. These dreams most of the time are our greatest desires but we tend to keep them in the unconscious part of our minds because sometimes these desires are too intense or unreasonable. If we remember those dreams "that can't be remembered", we'd be all feeling guilty.

My sister used to always dream about the end of the world. Her dreams are really vivid and ver scary. She dreams about the end of the world as it is told in the Bible on the book of revelation. She really didn't know what those dreams meant. Luckily, she doesn't dream about those things anymore. But what's really weird is that she once dreamed about this beatiful place and during that dream, she can smell this really fragrant odour and until now, she can still distinctly describe that smell and still know what the smell is like.

What's scarier is that my best friend used to dream about being raped continuously, by the same imaginary man with some imaginary voice. She's never even been raped, but it happened for years, and now its thankfully gone. But, I think it has something to do with your mentality at that time because she was deeply depressed during this time and very misanthropic/anti-social/intense...so her intensity manifested itself in these types of dreams. She still has vivid and very intense dreams, but since her mentality has become more positive...so has her dreams...

I have a shitty memory so I never remember my dreams...

I don't know about dreams, but usually when I'm reading, the characters have blurry faces. I think its something to do with the subconscious part of the mind...it recognises forms and shapes rather than faces.

I haven't remembered a dream since I was a child :(

I believe some psychologists believe this to be true, for example the scenario of your friend dreaming about being raped (clumsy as that sounds) could well indicate a feeling of helplessness at that time in her life.

I'm sure there are others out there who could actually make grounded rationalisations of dreams though rather than my hyopthetical bollocks.

That's right, present events greatly affect what we dream about.

Our brain has 2 memories. The "permanent" (events our brain saves and we remember for ever)and the "non-permanent" (events that we don't consider important(we don't notice) but our brains saves them for a short period of time.)When we're dreaming those memories are "working",mixing with each other and because we can't control it,we see some really weird dreams. So you don't have to worry.Everything's happening in our brain.

i used to dream about being raped. it was always by different people but a lot of the time it was by soldiers. i dont know what this means. i think maybe its my attitude towards authority or something.

my dreams are usually about death (my death mostly) and war now. this means change . . . apparently.

cheerful arent i?

Fortunately this is the only Freudian interpretation so far. Lets keep it that way.

maybe the woman in your dream has no face. Or the face doesnt matter to you. Think about the other things that happen or your surroundings and then think relatively, if prehaps her face doesnt matter, why wouldnt it.

I have very symbolic dreams some times. Dreams do have meanings, its your brain putting things toghether and you can become aware of feelings you try to ignore.

Maby the women on your dream was atractive yet ugly, so your brain erased her face so that you can masturbate without feeling guilty...

The human brain is very complex indeed...

I have a recuring dream where I am in a peaceful Japenese kind of blossom tree garden with a pond and everything is really peaceful, but i'm with my friend called Becky and we were crying. She had to go or something, I can never remember the exactness of it all. That David Gray song "This Years Love" was playing as well.

I also had a dream where I was at my own funeral? It was so fucking weird everyone was crying and I felt really bad for making everyone unhappy. It ends with me climbing into my coffin and being cremated. It was so strange, it was like I knew I was going to die and had arranged my funeral and I didn't want to die but I knew I was going to. Creepy.

Zombie, I don't think that you are smoking too much, I find I can remember my dreams much better when I have not been smoking at all!

The next time you are with this illusive yet intrieging women in your dreams, you should turn on the lights and get a good look at her.

Its possible she may already be someone that you know in your day to day reality, and who knows maybe she is coming to you in her dreams as well?

Lately it has been happening to me a lot that I go from being awake directly into dreams. I have my eyes closed and all i see is black and then all i see is something that isn't there and I am adream. ;)
I love language it is so slippery.

I think since most of us have been brought up to be dependant upon parents, teachers, god, whoever, it is not surprising at all that lucid dreams are rare, and dreams of helplessnes all the more often. Looking at the fact that 'we' believe all kinds of extremely obvious lies during our waking life it is not surprising that often we cannot identify out dreams as being just that.
Seriously, think about it for a second: isn't incredible that people are often not able to even identify the most outrageous dreams to be irrational? Goes to show that billions of people are totally conditioned not to actively think, if you ask me. ;) :/

Zombie, I think the reason you don't remember her face is because what she looks like doesn't represent anything to you - its more the essence of her personality that has you dreaming of her.

Dreams are great, they can help you learn about yourself.
I used to have dreams where I'd be unable to walk - I'd keep trying to get somewhere, usually following a bunch of my friends to an exciting place, but I'd keep stumbling backwards, and be unable to make progress. Then I'd get left behind.

I'd also have dreams where I would be in a fight with someone and be completely unable to either swing a punch or connect with a punch.

Both of these dreams represented my feelings of impotence and desperation - a feeling that my life was stagnant.
Thankfully I don't have them anymore.

Recurring dreams are wierd, I think everyone has them, but don't necessarily remember them. I only realised recenly that I'd been having those dreams for years, but I'd get more of a sense of them in the mornings than actually recollection.

I very rarely remember my dreams when I've been smoking before going to bed, so I doubt you're smoking too much.

I must concur, I do smoke far too much, and I haven't remembered a dream throughout the period.

I agree on this....

There's a lot of theory about dreaming. I think there's no answer to your question, i agree on the post that says it is all in your subconciousness. You'd have to reach that to get to your dreams i guess. If you know how to do that, tell me :P !

THIS IS THE STUFF FROM WHICH DREAMS ARE MADE:
http://leda.lycaeum.org//Images/Acetylcholine_2D_Structure.3528.gif
Acetylcholine

To enhance your dreamlife, take some 'Deanol' (aka 'Deaner') before you go to bed. This is a precursor to choline which will boost your levels of acetylcholine. It's availible without prescription in the States

I just had a dream like that last night.

I would try to swing but it was like my arms were too heavy or just wouldn't move.

I have that same thing except in my dreams I'll be running from something but its like my legs just won't go. Its like I cant just run. Its frustrating. Sometimes my dreams are really interesting too, I could probably write a book about some of them. I haven't really gotten really scared by a dream since I was a little kid. I can still remember some of my dreams from then also.
