It's a broad and non-specific sort of genre I know, but does anyone else here enjoy african beats and melodies? if so post some of your favorite artists, I'm interested in getting into some more of it.
I already listen to Artists like Habib Koite, Tinariwen, Soweto String Quartet and Hugh Masekela.
any more insight into the genre would be appreciated! :)

Ali Farka Toure from Mali is a great artist.
He plays a combination of traditional Malian music and blues. Some of his songs are straight up blues numbers, while some have a more obvious influence from Mali.
Good albums are Niafunke, Radio Mali, and Talking Timbuktu with Ry Cooder.
You can hear some samples from his music here:

I also like a lot of music from Africa which is just based around percussion. Do a search on Soulseek for "djembe" and listen to what turns up.

Cani, if you like Ali Farka Toure, i suggest you check out a band called Tinariwen (they are Imashagen (more commonly known as Touregs) who fought in the Malian civil war) they have a very similar sound, but with more folk influences.

I'm a fan of music from Lusophone Africa, that is, Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde. Semba is lovely. No one will have heard of her, but I like Eneida Marta. Paulo Flores and Jovino dos Santos are great too.
