Well only few weeks ago I thought that "Che" is a part of his surname but than I was the same admirer of his ideals as now when I know what does "Che" means. So that is not a big problem I think. ;)

Che is an Argentine (argentinian is not the correct word) slang word meaning "hey!" or "hey, you". Our friend Ernesto was nicknamed it due to his using it all the time.

It's the Korda image of Che that is more worrying.

More people know the face than the name and more people use the face to make money. The Korda image has simply become fashionable. I don't think it is bad that his image has become fashionable as, ideally, it would provoke an interest in Che and his ideals; it was through seeing Che's face on someones t-shirt that I first became interested. However it is bad that big companies are cashing in on Che's image. You can see his face on t-shirts in River Island, Topshop, Howell's... the list goes on. I've got 2 Che t-shirts; one from a tent at the Virgin Music festival for 50p!! what a bargain. And another from a website called PhilosophyFootball.com which I think still represents companies cashing in on his image. But how do you seperate those who are cashing in fromt hose trying to spread the word.

Thisis the case in Britain anyway. Very few people know the name but loads know the face. It may be different elsewhere.

The real problem is that people buy the shirt because they think it looks cool. Most of those people don't even know Che's name or who he was or what he did.

Yeh that's what I mean. It's all linked to the cashing in though.

I mean, we can take personal issue with those who wear it, but let's face it, fashion will always exist and if it's in fashion, so be it. It's the companies cashing in on Che who we should be more resentful of.

My girlfriend's parents got offended when they saw my t-shirt, they said that Che was responsible for many "Acts of terrorism and genocide" which is a downright lie.

ihave the same problem, i printed a pic of che, and my step mum asked to see wat i printed, when she saw it she told me that "that guy's one of those mass murderers" i cant argue with my step mum (she's a lawyer, where's the point??) i replied with "isnt he a revolutionary for cuba???" her responce "exactly, a mass murderer" i left the argument there, i wish there was a way i could teach her who che really was! i'd show her the pic of him snuggling up to the puppy or to his children but she wouldnt see him any different!!!

yep. A former friend just told me today that she saw a "kick ass poster of che at a concert". that's fine, but after lengthy conversations it is apparent she does not appreciate him, his politics, or anyone's politics for that matter. Besides the fact that this person in question is a lemming. That is, if it's popular she wants it.

I hardly think Che would have any objections to a group of people with his ideal using his name.

Back when I lived in Michigan, nobody knew who the hell che was. When I explained to them that he was a revolutionary, who fought along side Castro, they say "he was/is a communist?! How can you wear that?"

As far as commercilization goes, I believe that its okay for someone living in Latin America to make up Che shirts and sell them at the market, I bought both my Che shirts from villagers in Guatemala, but what irks me is when I walk into a shopping mall and see Che shirts being sold.

That's a pretty stupid thing to say.

You think if we want to buy a t-shirt with one of our heroes on it we should have to go to Larin America?

It's ok for shops to sell images of Che on t-shirts so long as it is spreading knowledge of Che and his ideals.

What people are saying is that when companies are justusing Che's image to cash in, it is shite. But if people are producing them because they want to further his cause, then for all I care they can sell them in McDonald's on burger cartons.
