Should the BBC stop being funded by us?Or, Should the licence fee just be reviewed? Do the BBC represent everybody's views? If not we SHOULD stop funding them.
with what alternative?
another ITV? another Sky?
the only alternative i see is making it representative.

Yep, sorry kez. Radio 1 stinks.
To be honest, I'd propose nationalisation of BT (all branches) and emalgamation with the BBC, the switching off of the TV signal to be replaced by a continious high-speed digital information stream (that can include televisual and audio broadcasting)
I'd then rename the entire thing the Ministry of Information and Communication :D

What about radio 5 live i listen to in the evening.
i thought Radio1 was shite, uuntil i started doing a lot of driving for work, now i'll sometimes have to listen to it for 3 hours non-stop, motherfuckin traffic.
I got one of those cd/tape things, where its a tape, leading to your cd player, so u can put ur own cd in, blast a bit of the old Soviet Anthem off when traffic clears up, feels good as u scream away from traffic, old shits, get the fuck off the road....****s.

I prefer Radio 6. I can't stand most of the Radio 1 DJs especially Sarah Cox and that **** Scott Mills. Radio 1 got rid of its best DJs a couple of months ago.
But going back to the topic, im all in favour of a publically funded tv network, if it can provide football highlights without so many bloody adverts then i can't complain.

Radio 3 is random... but sometimes it has some really good stuff on.
2 has Johnathon Ross! What a man. Radio 4 is good for general news and also comedy occasionally and general interest programs.

Public funding is much better than private funding.

The actual issue is that the BBC's "charter" is now being reviewed. If they don't get it back, it would be awarded to another group i imagine. Therefore there would still be a publicly funded media - just maybe not the BBC.

Is everyone forgetting a legend called Chris Moyles?
I can't see how you can call that bad radio when you've actually mentioned some of the other people I've read so far!
Good to see someone (DaCuban) has an interesting scientific/technological thinking. Would never have know that was possible myself but there we go.
I would support funding the BBC for another 10 years (or 5 as I heard the news suggest some "groups" are trying to make happen". Like someone mentioned, we get good sports coverage without bullshit ads from companies with shit marketing ploys. We get Question Time! And you can't say that's not quality when David Dimbledy sees his youth re-entering his mind and starts a leftist rant against some old wrinkled Tory. Plus, I tend to prefer BBC News 24 to Sky News. Largely because of the lack of ad breaks and weather reports.
Plus, BBC Three shows Little Britain! I know our licensing fee doesn't go to that (or does it) but it is the BBC's channel so I'm sure that'd be affected.
And come on, what would our girlfriends do at night if Eastenders wasn't on tv......
...actually.
Anyway, I'm for keeping the Beeb. I heard on Sky News earlier (completely contradicting my earlier statement that I preferred watching BBC News 24, but never mind) about some of the shoddy proposals should the BBC's charter not be renewed. Sounded shite.

Radio 1, Radio 2, Radio 3 ... what interesting and descriptive names you have for your public radio stations.
In Australia we have Triple J (rock, pop, etc), Classic FM, Radio National, News Radio, and a local station basically everywhere. (I listen to Radio National most of the time.)
We do only have one public TV station though.
And of course it should be publicly funded! Anyone who is a socialist should support public broadcasting (without government interference).

paper this morning suggests that the BBC is going to keep the funding, but to do so they have to cut alot of the reality TV crap.

Indeed... I just wish they'd make them go back to the old style of newsreading they had - they've got this stupid namby-pamby discussions going on, and you can tell the presenters aren't even nearly awake, and half of them talk like idiots
This is aside from the fact that they talk idly about bollocks half the time... I can vividly recall one of the presenters complimenting a guest on their hair....
The BBC needs totally reformed - it's a bigger write off than BT. Think about it... where have all the 'great british comedies' gone?
natelie kablinksy is a fucking ****, and her mate on bbc morning news, they talk such bollocks, no brains of their own, utter propaganda, and to think we pays those fuckers.

Not that I know a whole lot about the ins and outs of how the BBC works being that I am an American, but I can say that for someone who claims to be a socialist/communist, Trotskyist sure seems to be advocating alot of privatization (ie this thread and the one on private funding of football). Rather ironic.

Having since gone back over this thread, I can't find any reference to anyone who recommends privatising the BBC.
For starters it's not actually a government entity: It IS a private business that is paid a charter by the british government to supply news/weather/entertainment broadcasting without interruption in the UK.
The closest thing I can even see to this though is my own mention of the word 'reform' - It's amazing how much you can scare communists with this word - they instantly assume that 'reform' = privatisation.

I think the BBC should recieve an unconditional charter renewel for at least 100 years.
If the BBC didn't have to worry about viewing figures and keeping government miniters happy they might actualy be able to be impartial.

Yes, I want the BBC to be publicily funded provided it represents us!
I in no way said I wanted football to br privately funded, in fact if you'd bothered to read the thread I was saying how the huge revenue produced by these clubs would be better in our pockets than there's!!! So get your facts straight!
