I ran into a book of his the other day (at a bookstore), but was reluctant to spend the cash, seeing as i have none of it. Based on what i've heard, it seems he is possibly the most knowledgeable source on the subject.
Anyone ever read his works or compilations? Thoughts?

Kropotkin is one of the best proponents of anarchist communism and is an easier read than Bakunin. One of the best books you can buy to start of with, in my opinion, if you are an advanced reader, is 'The Fugitive Writings.' It's a collection of essays, the contents of which are,
'Must we occupy ourselves with an examination of the ideal of a future system' - his first political essay.
'Anarchist Communism: Aims and Principles'
'Anarchist Morality'
'The state: Its historic role'
'Anarchism: It's philosophy and ideal'
Buying the book is obviously better, and you can buy it very cheap on Amazon if you have a card. Or you can just check the link here which provides you with most of the essays that i've listed.
Once you've mastered those, 'Mutual Aid' and 'Conquest of Bread' are both great books which explore his ideas more indepth. They are also in the link.

I like Kropotkin's theory of evolution. He says that the Darwinist theory is wrong and that it is species of animals who cooperated that survived over stronger species

I agree with CM here. Everyone should definitely check out Kropotkin's Mutual Aid:

I think Bakunin is the best read on Anarchism.
Actually, if you are looking for a good introduction, you might want to look into Alexander Berkman's "What is Communist Anarchism?" which basically goes through every different issue on the ideology.
