I recentlly bourght El Mariachi/Desperado on DVD but there was something that confused me.

(SPOILERS. If you have not seen the films but intend to, do NOT read on. SPOILERS)

Ive been led to beleive that El in Desperado is trying to track down and kill the man who killed his girlfreind and life as a mariachi, but doesnt he do this in El Mariachi? And even if he didn't, wouldn't he already know that the drug Dealer is his brother?

I don't remember what he was doing in the last one?

Or was following a different story?

When Robert Rodriguez made Desperado (i think) he was originally planning to do a remake of El Mariachi. It changed a lot in the process though and became a different film.

Also in the thrid mariachi film (once upon a time in mexico) lots of people who were killed in Desperado have returned and El Mariachi can play guitar again (which he couldnt do in desperado because he had been shot in the hand).

Robert Rodriguez thinks of these films as almost fantasy films and doesnt intend for them to be consistant. he even said that none of the films help explain each other. ;)

So erm . . . there you go.

I really dont like Once Upon A Time In Mexico, I really like Desperado, but that new movie...I dunno the Mexican capital is like some village, the whole Mexican Revolution thing is just lame, they kinda over did it with that film

I respect Rodriguez and his style at approaching film making...but so far in his career I think he seems more suited for writing for a comic book, or making animes.

I think he likes too many explosions in his movies for his own good. And to me a lot of things in Desperado and Once Upon a Time seem illogical to an extent that it's comical. But heh...I haven't seen El Mariachi yet, I'll hold my official opinion back until I see that one.

Apparently the dealer in the first film (That killed the girl) worked for the dealer in the second, so El thought he had to kill him for some reason. But when it all come down to it, who really cares. As long as its a cool movie.

And yes Once Apon...Mexico really sucked. Way too many charcters/plots. And as mentioned above, actors whos characters where killed played new characters which just confused the situation.

Once Upon a Time is set after Desperado. That movie was poorly writen and dident really follow El that well. It was more a story about the FBI guy.

Just a reminder for the writer of the movie...

Mexico city is the eighth largest city in the world, not the first.

Seoul is the largest city in the world.

You have been misinformed.

Seoul has just over 10 million people, which is immense. No city has ever had 25 million people.

And to keep with the thread, Robert Rodriguez is a complete hack. He has not done anything good since El Mariachi, a film budgeted at $7200.00.
