Soul or Rock?

I've recently begun listening to certain singers from the 70's that I was pretty sure were catagorized as soul singers, like Isaac Hayes and Stevie Wonder. But I've recently seen a Stevie Wonder on the VH1 classic rock video channel, so tell me, how should I classify these two singers.

but yeah, cani's right.... Isaac Hayes couldn't be anything but soul. Stevie Wonder did do some hybrid stuff though...
