From these days of great heroism to the prolonged and ongoing resistance…
THE ROAD OF THE PARTY-FRONT IS THE ROAD OF LIBERATION FOR THE PEOPLE OF
TURKEY
From March 30 to April 17… These are days in which we remember our heroes
martyred in the 32 years of our struggle to establish an independent,
democratic and socialist Turkey as well as the 8th anniversary of the
founding of our Party, which shows the way to people's power. 1970 was the
year in which the People's Liberation Party-Front of Turkey (THKP-C) was
founded. The THKP-C was involved in the class struggle for the short space
of two years before it gave rise to Kizildere on March 30, 1972. It was not
destroyed at Kizildere, as is proved by over 30 years in which the THKP-C
ideology and traditions have been continued by the followers of the
Party-Front.
Developments in Turkey and the world in the last 30 years since Kizildere
have borne witness that the Kizildere manifesto did not simply show Turkey
the road to liberation, but also all the peoples of the world. The manifesto
proclaimed in Kizildere was not simply a statement calling on us to resist,
not to surrender, not to abandon the beliefs and claims appropriate to
revolution and to maintain a high level of morality and the highest level of
revolutionary purity. It was at the same time a historic document announcing
the way to revolution. The leaders and cadres of the THKP-C proclaimed this
document with their lives and with their blood; there it is written that the
road of armed struggle is the road to liberation for the people of Turkey.
This also states that people's power cannot be achieved without paying a
heavy price, without feeling a great passion for freedom and a great longing
for independence. The followers of the Party-Front have been paying this
price for 30 years, and the passion for freedom has increased over those 30
years.
Continuing the tradition, the name of hope is the DHKP-C
Kizildere was also the first planned massacre by the Susurluk state. From
Hiram Abas to the death squads run by the Special Warfare Department, the
Susurluk phenomenon which is being exposed today was already present at
Kizildere on that March 30 long ago. Since those days, Susurluk has been
organising to destroy the armed revolution of the Front.
It was soon understood that it could not be destroyed. Millions laid claim
to the potential of the Party-Front which was physically destroyed at
Kizildere. Despite being young and inexperienced, the supporters of the
Party-Front waged an ideological struggle against liquidationism and denial,
resisting fascism and continuing the tradition by fighting. Devrimci Sol
(Revolutionary Left) was founded in 1978 as a result of this process.
Devrimci Sol proved in practice and through its ideology that it was the
only representative of the Party-Front line. In 1994 the Devrimci Halk
Kurtulus Partisi-Cephesi (Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front) was
formed.
The founding of the DHKP-C is the proof that the Party-Front's traditions
are too deeply planted in this soil to be uprooted and thrown away. The
slogan "the name of hope is the DHKP-C", a slogan shouted by tens of
thousands of marchers, is also proof of that.
The violence and resistance of the peoples against tyranny is legitimate
The THKP-C's statement that its line was one of armed resistance was not
unfounded, was not merely an intention and was not a mere matter of
preference. It came about as the most natural and inevitable consequence of
imperialism and the oligarchy's efforts to destroy through bans, repression
and violence those who struggle to establish a society without exploitation.
In conditions where there is no democracy left, there is nothing more
legitimate than for the peoples to use violence to resist tyranny and
hunger; there is nothing more legitimate than for the people of Turkey and
the peoples of the world to rise up against tyranny and oppression and apply
the remedy of armed struggle.
Although it was inevitable for decades in our country and worldwide, since
September 11 it is beyond dispute. The limits of American imperialism and
its expansionist policies throughout the world are clear; it is clear that
it and its collaborator fascist governments which rule in spite of the
people are using demagogy about "terrorism" to continue war in the interests
of the monopolies, and the peoples have the right to resist this war. The
peoples will continue to pursue their struggle by all means necessary
against imperialism and fascist terror.
Asia, the Middle East, the Balkans and Latin America… On every continent
where the USA has trodden… Palestine, Turkey, Colombia, the Philippines,
Peru, Nepal… Wherever US-backed fascist governments hold power, the
legitimacy and validity of people's struggle is not open to criticism. From
Guantanamo to Afghanistan, from Palestine to the F-Type prisons, the
brutality America transmits to the entire world is so unrestrained that any
form of resistance, from guerrilla warfare to sacrifice actions, is
legitimate.
This truth was expressed back in 1972. Nobody can now object that the THKP-C
failed to characterise the oligarchy and imperialism properly. Mahir
stressed that US imperialism was the main enemy of the world's peoples, and
also said that only the armed road was applicable in the struggle against
American imperialism and its collaborationist oligarchy.
Having destroyed the will of the people, both in Turkey and the world, the
USA has committed massacres, condemned the masses to hunger and injustice,
continuously rained bombs on them and killed people by means of embargoes
and illness, while calling legitimate resistance to it "terrorism". The
tyranny of the oligarchy and dozens of other fascist governments is the
USA's tyranny. America is the source of the injustice.
From the THKP-C to Devrimci Sol and from Devrimci Sol to the Devrimci Halk
Kurtulus Partisi-Cephesi, our line has been characterised by
anti-imperialism and opposition to pro-American policies. In no neo-colony
of imperialism can there be a struggle for power which does not target US
imperialism. The peoples cannot be free and independent. For this reason the
Party-Front has stated that the revolution in Turkey must be an
anti-imperialist, anti-oligarchic people's revolution.
Kizildere is the spirit of lofty solidarity nourished by the claims of the
revolution
Mahir said that "the execution of Deniz and his friends would be the defeat
of Turkey's revolution". Kizildere was the culmination of actions by the
cadres of the THKP-C who aimed to save Deniz and his comrades. In a great
way this laid claim to revolution. It made supporting Deniz and comrades an
essential part of the revolution. It laid claim to revolution in a way which
was a lofty form of revolutionary morality, because the spirit of solidarity
was taken as far as the sacrifice of one's life. Today in our country and
worldwide, this claim to the revolution has been weakened. While this has
been the case, imperialist counter-attacks have increased and become more
relentless. Unless it lays claim to the revolution, the left is doomed to
rot. In our prisons, in Palestine, in Afghanistan… Prime examples of this
rottenness have been reactions to attacks by imperialism and the oligarchy
such as "So what?" "Never mind," "We stressed our differences," and "Nothing
to do with us." Solidarity should be international, and should be a
revolutionary spirit imbued with a loftiness, as Mahir's solidarity with
Deniz was. All the world's revolutionaries must take a stance against US
imperialism and heighten their solidarity with the oppressed peoples.
The Banner They Are Waving Is The Banner Of Socialism.
April 16-17 1992 was the day on which Sabo and her followers held the hammer
and sickle banner of socialism on high.
April 16-17, 1992 was a mighty voice from Turkey which played an important
role in proclaiming socialism at a time when the socialist bloc had
collapsed, and all over the world people had succumbed to fear, disbelief in
revolution and hopelessness and the idea of revolution and socialism had
been weakened. The flag waved at Ciftehavuzlar proclaimed and indeed shouted
out the idea that today, as the American empire tries to make itself a world
empire, the only liberation of the peoples rests with socialism.
The flag that was waved expressed the invincibility of socialism.
Imperialism, which regards socialism as its enemy in history, added the
DHKP-C to its list of (proscribed) organisations because from Kizildere to
April 17 to December 19, the followers of the Party-Front have been
prominent among those in the world holding high the banner of socialism.
Those who wish to destroy the ideology of socialism and who are the
arch-enemies of the peoples have proclaimed us to be their enemy and have
thereby proved the truth and correctness of the line we have traced since
Kizildere. Now this banner is waving in the isolation cells, in the
mountains of the Black Sea Region, in the struggles of the poor in the
shantytowns and tomorrow it will wave elsewhere. In the mountains, the
shantytowns, the villages, the workplaces, the schools… This banner will
wave everywhere. The oligarchy cannot imprison the Party-Front within one
nation, one religious confession or one region. The whole of Turkey is the
Party-Front's arena of struggle and organisation.
From Kizildere to Ciftehavuzlar
From Ciftehavuzlar to the Prolonged Struggle
"We came here to die, not to surrender," this is the statement of our
refusal to surrender and tradition of resistance which has developed and
grown in 30 years. On April 17 the banner of revolution was the expression
that the idea of socialism could not be destroyed, and it reached its summit
on December 19-22, 2000 and afterwards in the Prolonged Struggle.
In the history of Turkey and the world, nothing like it has been seen; with
a spirit of sacrifice, allegiance to the cause, persistence in our beliefs
and with a line of heroic resistance, we waged a great resistance to the
murderous state on December 19. All the plans of the oligarchy were turned
upside down by our comrades who sacrificed themselves, setting their bodies
on fire, and contesting every square metre of the prisons.
With support from imperialism, Turkey's oligarchy tried on that day to make
us surrender our hope of revolution and the liberation of our people. But
the opposite happened. We increased our claim to revolution with our lofty
morality and spirit of sacrifice. The whole world has borne witness that our
Front is a people's movement with our comrades, inside and outside prison,
young and old, men and women, from those who have been in the struggle six
months to those who have upheld the cause for 25 years.
Since Kizildere we have strengthened our traditions by adding new ones, and
with the Prolonged Resistance we have sunk roots that cannot be pulled up.
December 19 and the Prolonged Resistance left tyranny helpless and declared
the legitimacy of sacrifice actions on the soil of Turkey.
This spirit of sacrifice will develop. For tyranny is attacking more
relentlessly on a world scale. American imperialism is telling the peoples,
"Surrender or die." Fascist attacks are being enlarged to comprise every
section of the people. Tyranny has been practised against those who rebel
because they are hungry. In such a world and in a land like Turkey, the
self-sacrifice will certainly grow. The Prolonged Struggle has proved that
no kind of repression can separate revolutionaries from their thoughts and
ideas. All the people of Turkey have borne witness that we went to our
deaths smiling in this resistance because of our love for our people and
homeland, and so that our people could live in a free country. Death has
become a symbol of a free life and making others live in freedom. Patriotism
and a passion for freedom have been shown by the Free Prisoners of the
Party-Front in their resistance, and were and are represented by our heroism
as our bodies have been worn down.
This History Is The History Of Our Martyrs
We have drawn a line of socialism in 30 years of brilliant resistance and
heroism, analysing the world and Turkey in the most correct and unflinching
fashion. We have shown that we are indisputably the line of liberation for
the peoples of Anatolia through our refusal to be defeated.
In this history we have the greatest share of martyrs. Every drop of blood
we shed on the soil of Anatolia has taken root among the people. Each of our
martyrs has become a tender shoot for hundreds of others, these have taken
root and become a harvest. The children of our martyrs have fought in the
mountains and in the cities. Their children will fight. With our children,
with our young, with our old, our woman and girls, Kurds, Turks, Arabs, Laz,
Cherkess… 70 million of our people, Alevi and Sunni, if a thousand years of
struggle against the system of tyranny and imperialism should pass, if we
give hundreds of thousands of martyrs, we will resist and fight. Until
Liberation. Liberation is an independent, democratic and socialist Turkey.
