View Full Version : Fired for stupid reasons?

I know i said this in another thread about media censorship, but I felt it deserved it's own topic. I'm curious about it.

That whole thing about the woman who got fired for taking the pictures of the caskets of deceased soldiers with flags draped over, and putting them in the newspaper was just stupid. Now, since she got fired for showing the caskets, then why was the REST of the media allowed to show the picture that got HER fired, without and type of punishment? Sure, they only blamed her, and maybe used it as a example of what's bad, but what allows them to show it? The story behind it may be different, BUT THE PICTURE REMAINS THE SAME. Her story, and her picture, was all over the news. What allows the majority of the media, that didn't take the picture to show it, but not the photographer? I just don't get it...

The pentagon are terified of people realisng what war actually is;
PEOPLE DIE, and they want to censor anyone who shows this.
Once the photos were taken though, they couldn't stop anyone from showing them.

Damn right on that, the photos made it on the wed, the news, the raido was talking about it. The Pentagon wants to make the Cololiton soilders apper invincible, but they arent. I dont know why the news dosent get blasted for showing dead Iraqies.

You know I think that if its something that would needed censorship then it shouldn’t be shown. However, if it's something that could affect the people physics then I see no reason for censorship.

Ciki: http://theage.com.au/articles/2004/04/22/1...s&oneclick=true (http://theage.com.au/articles/2004/04/22/1082616264208.html?from=storyrhs&oneclick=true)

I don't think the Pentagon wants the soldiers to appear impervious. It's probably that they don't want popular perception being affected by the reality that people died over there. After all, it might make people realize that how full of it Bush really is when he says that everything in Iraq is moving according to plan.

By the way, Ciki, do you have any idea of where I can find a transcript of the interview Bush did while he was in Ireland?

They didn't want these pictures of the coffins released because they knew that by her taking the pics and distrubting them, it would cause people to start questioning about what the troops are getting into there, and of course it would hurt Bush's ratings since they seem to be dropping as time goes by, as long as some incident doesn't happen that allows him to benefit from it or he uses some other type of subliminal propaganda.

I just thought this up...

Why did Ms Sicilio (i think) lose her job? Shouldn't it have been the editor who actually put it in the newspaper? He/She chose to expose the public to it, not the photographer...

She wasn't actually a photographer or reporter or anything. She worked for the company contracted to fly the bodies home by the U$ military. They were the ones who fired her, probably because it was an embarrassment to them and potentially harmful to their future business efforts as a government contractor. That's just a guess, though. I haven't heard any official rational or press release by her former employers.

Oh! My misunderstanding, I thought she was a journalist. Ok, I understand. Thanks Praxis.

If you look into it, the White House and Pentagon censor so much.
The U$ has freedom of press, jut as long as they show anything the administration doesn't like.
e.g. The White House censored footage taken at the castle Bu$h was staying in Ireland, as it showed him wearing a vest! (God its so funny when you see it!)
