So the US is supposed to hand over power to the Iraqi provisional government (that's a joke) by the 30th. Meanwhile, the resistence has stepped up it's efforts to banish the occupying force and those who are collaborating with them, ten fold.

The occupiers are out of themselves with joy. Their whole hope was to 'destabilise' Iraq so that they get a pretext to stay. My news anchor seems elated that he can stop describing prisoner abuse and start denouncing the 'terrorists' who 'destabilise' the country.

Every one know we arent going to be out of there in 5 days. We are to stuck on making sure that we have our cut in the pie that is the Iraq econamy. By defending Iraq though these final days were diging out our portion with our thumb.

Exactly like they said, the country will be "too destabilized" so we'll have to "intervene to make it safe again."

As a senior Iraqi official said;

"We will have the power to do anything....but Paul Bremmer has the cheque-book."

It will be interesting to see if the US actually sticks around in Iraq, or if the negative impact from all the violence will cause the US to try and find a way out, like in Vietnam ( although it appears the country is no where near this point)

The situation in Iraq has many problems. If the US completely pulls out militarily their will be a power vacuum and civil war will result. But as long the US is there, their will continue to be bombings and such. I think the US will be their militarily for a long time. As for handing over political control in 5 days, I feel that is pushing it. The only solution is the US should have never been their! :angry:

On what grounds to you believe there will be a civil war? Between whom?
Certainly not Shi'is and Sunnis- they are often in the same families.
The Kurds- possibly, but can you show me any evidence that this possibility is likely?
Amongst the resistance? Not likely (although possible). The Iraqi resistance groups have been in communication with each other for over a year. More, they are all part of a society that predates the invasion- they have their own laws, rules and relationships. Given that many of the actions of the resistance have been co-ordinated, I would suggest that a more likely outcome is a REAL interim Iraqi Governing Council, followed by elections.
I'm sure that there will be some violence, but not on the scale suggested by the corporate media.

Nevertheless, the US intends to be in Iraq militarily until at least 2006, regardless of 'democracy'.
