You cant stop piracey. If you wanted to do that you would have to destroy every DVD recorder, VHS recorder, casetape recorder and CD burner. It is unstopible.

I download anything, but I will only burn the songs to CD if they're from a major record label, if it's an indie label I try to buy the CD just so the music keeps being made and the artists have a bit of an easier time getting by.

Who cares if the industry allows music piracy?

Fuck the music industry. Steal more music.

the artists dont make that much money off the cds. it's the record companies that are royally screwing the artists, not the pirates so to speak.

Real artists don't produce art to get money anyway. What most artists want is recognition - and under capitalist society, having your music bought is recognition.

If I were to produce a piece of music i'd want to know wether people liked it or not.

CDs are expensive, downloading mp3s is not that bad and much cheaper, there's not a big difference in quality, CDs can get you bored after listening them many times, it seems there's not much labour exploited in the process that heavily depends on this to live (not sure of this), a CD you buy can dissapoint you, record companies HAVE THE MONOPOLY over an artist's music and EXPLOIT THEM, and many artists are "lazy idiots" that make stupid music and are usually "sold out" from the beginning, so I say buy 1 or 2 of your favourite CDs AND THEN DOWNLOAD THE REST!!!!!

I appreciate the ability to download a custom mix, suited to the most favorite tracks. Then pop it into an MP3 player and take it with me where I go, with game modifications I enjoy working on all on the same portable drive.

But there is one thing I wish for. USB ports in cars! Imagine being able to pop your MP3 into the dashboard and listen directly from it!

And if those industry guys want us to buy CDs, they musn't attack downloading, they must work with it. Imagine if you were legally allowed to download up to a half of a CD. But imagine if you were required to purchase a CD if you download more than half of it!

This would not only allow download of the better tracks while legally skipping the shitty ones, but it would also stop the spread of half-crap CDs. An album would be required to be really good to sell at all!

Im nice to the music companies. Ill download their songs, mainly cuse im flat ass broke, and then if I feel like the group is actually good, Ill buy the CD, otherwise i just keep on downloading.

The increased use of the internet for music, in particular, free music download websites, is dramatically decreasing the demand for CD albums. Artists will get less revenues from their albums. This will result in old established and wealthy artists dominating the scene while individual talents are left outside without cash and funds. We will end up with a less varied music industry. You may criticise these labels, but they do bring us music, even if most of it shite.

One scary thing is that Microsoft is planning to invest a hell of a lot in the online music industry. Seeing as 'online' is where the future of music seems to be...this does not look very promising. A music industry run by Microsoft is going to be crap! A music monopoly. How awful. Call me a pessimist, but if this happens I fear that the value of music will be destroyed. I mean, what the HELL does Bill Gates know about music. He's a NERD!

Free music download sites seem to be a good way to 'resist' this, but even they can be persuaded to go legal. Call me a pessimist, but I see no bright future for music if it becomes internet-based.

Piracy is bad, because the bands dont get the money to continue producing music.

but when I go to the shops and see a CD costing £17... On too suprnova, or winMX.

Apple have already got iTunes (99 cents or 79p for each track).

Now the most succesful bands are making more and more money from touring and performing live, because they're losing out in CD revenue.

I support indie labels, and only buy stuff from the big companies if I love it and can't get it any other way.

Fuck Clear Channel and fuck the big record companies. DIY all the way.
