This is from a Russian news site;

US investigators have neither sufficient evidence no witnesses to accuse former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein of the crimes the "brutal dictator" was supposed to commit.
The British official who did not want to reveal his name, said in the Times interview that none of the captured Iraqi high-ranking officials from the US "list of 55" agrees to testify against the former dictator.

"They are scared", the official said. "Saddam can be prosecuted, but they know that their families will suffer if they testify against him". There may be grounds for such concerns as on June 5 the brother of the man who betrayed Saddam"s sons to Americans and got $30 million as a reward, was killed.
Being short of evidence, US investigators come to understanding that Saddam was not only extremely cruel, but also very smart tyrant.
According to the Times" source, there is no written evidence that Saddam ordered to commit this or that criminal action. The Iraqi President was good at delegating responsibilities, he was giving oral orders, and his subordinates were responsible for paper work.

Hussein is supposed to be prosecuted by special Iraqi Tribunal. He may be accused of executing Shiites on a large scale in 1980-1990s, and of invading Kuwait.

According to AFP, Iran is preparing documents to bring the charges of torturing Iranian prisoners captured during the war of 1980-1988.

Iraqi Minister of Justice said lately that death penalty could be re-introduced in Iraq after Americans pass the authority to Iraqi government, and this penalty could be applied to Hussein
Saddam"s relatives hired 20 lawyers for him, but no layer was able to meet the former Iraqi President. Americans do not reveal the location of the detained Iraqi dictator, and the only thing left for the layers is denouncing Americans for violating Geneva Conventions.

Does anyone else rekon that Saddam will have a convinient "accident" before his trial?

Who knows, but if they do start up the death penalty in Iraq again, all I have to say is that there will be many pissed off Iraqi's.

What's going on with Saddam anyway? I haven't had new about him for a while.

Anyway, it would be a pretty huge show if they would broadcast Saddam's execution. But after that, Iraquis will have once again death penalty, and will live in (corporate) tyranny happily ever after...

I think its more in america's political interests to allow iraq to deal with him (which will probably be death), for so many reasons

(1) america said they would do so
(2) try to inject a US style justice system right at the top with a famous case. Flow down theory
(3) makes it look like america has handed back power
(4) makes iraq look legit and "western"
(5) would be symbolic of a Us final victory in iraq

Its election time remember.

Wouldn't it just be so funny if the Iraqis elected a hardline Islamist Iranian-style party into power?
The U$ would soon go back on their promise to bring "democracy" to the Iraqi people!

Hmmn, maybe yes, perhaps a convinently placed bottle of pills or a disposable razor will be avaliable to him and then he'll have a nasty suicide attempt faked by those in charge maybe. Seems likely huh?!?! Not that I'm cynical or anything.

off topic i know; but did he really say that? I think "ouch" is more likely, or "ow".
Also, who was there when it was done?

it seems like saddam has been "forgotten" for a while by the newspapers... havent read anything about him since around the weeks when he got captured... sounds strange as he had such a big focus in the war...

I can see him getting some sort ofdodgy sentance for "cooperating", probably end up in exile somewhere. I think America has done a great job of distracting people from what to do with Saddam ,they rode the propaganda wave that came with his discovery and have let it settle down again.
