Can't say I'll be shedding any tears for her.Better stock up on videos though ,'cos there will be bugger all on TV except for sycophantic royal watchers.Ah!well, every silver lining has its cloud.

Will Elton John write a new song for her, or just tweak the Marilyn Monroe one again?

The money isn't the big issue. The big issue is the brain damage being broadcasted on BritishTV and in the British newspapers.
All the anecdotes about what a sweet ole lady she was are going to ooze out from every pour. Where are we going to go to throw up?
Where do I hibernated until the "news" story is as dead as the Queen mother? I'm mean who cares that the rich fart who never did a hard days work in her life is dead? Call me unsympathetic. Take it with a pillar of salt!
May the Force with U!

She wasn't very sympathetic to the families of the striking miners that she had evicted from her lands in Northumberland in the 30's.I bet they don't shout about that in the papers.

I know this isnt what youd expect from me but she had no bad intentions and she was only an old woman i have nothing against her,
I say...........Rest In Peace

Yeah i agree irish. I don't think anydeath should really be celebrated. Even though i despise the royal family. I think being dissrespectful to the dead is a very bad thing to do. And very sad, At the end of the day its simply some ones loved mother who died. I rest my anti royal family stuff for the day. I feel sorry for the family.

the queen mother's death will be an excellent smokescreen for the governement aswell
It wasn't just an old woman who died, this woman got shit loads of money, and great care, and a lovely heated palace whilst many old women get beat up in the street getting mugged, cash strapped with their shitty pensions, and they would be waiting months upon months for a very shitty artifical hip.She was treated better than hundreds of people because of her unelected, undeservering position in society, she was a thief,a tyrant and i have no pity for her or the royal family, fuck them!
James

I agree with alot of that, but unlike you. I don't rejoice in some ones death.

I agree with revolutionary spirit,
Save Ur sympathy for people who really deserve it. She had a very luxurious life, without any depth of care for those in deep poverty. I never noticed her outrage at homelessness in 21th Century Britain!
Better people die every day, and U won't hear of them.
In an ideal world there would not be any death, but that withstanding U have to accept she was going to die sometime, and U have to examine the value of her life, and to paraphrase Plato:
It was an unexamined life.
May the Force be with U!

So James you would not rejoice at George Bush dying? Both these people rob us of our future
James

I totaly agree, again, with alot of that stuff. I'm just saying, i don't think we should jump up and down because someones died.
In a sense death is what we all strive for, and i think, is the closest we will get to it. In death we are all equal, there is no "class". I don't know where i'm going with this, so i'll shut up. I been out voted by everyone i think.

This woman did nothing to earn our sorrow, she will get a big state funeral. What did she do?She left alot of building in her name around the commonwealth, even when she's dead she will carry on having her name plastered in sides of buildings. What was so royal about her?

Oh i didn't see that post! i wouldn't rejoice that he was dead. However of course i would be happy, in the same sense that i'm happy about some of the Queen's mothers characteristics/way/life/history has died. I would never wish for death to come to some one just because simply "i don't like them" or anything.
When i saw a set of pictures, of a Taliban soldier being humiliated and then finally killed by a group of northern "allience" soldiers, i did feel pitty. Even though i have seen pictures and read about what the TALIBAN, what HE represented, had done. I can't help it, i suppose its part of my human nature to be capable of sympathy.
I don't HATE george bush. I HATE his way, what he stands for, aspects of his character. I don't wish for him to die, i wish for him to lose power. Not for him to die.
I would not REJOICE at Bush's death.

30th March 2002, 20:48
You mean you are happy with her act infront of the tv?Fair enough,i guess it helped you cope with her living in a palace easier.
The taliban soldier?Sure you can feel sorry for him, because after all he was just a small man being used, more than likely lied to,he would of been a victim as much as anyone else. The queen mother is something different, she died with the best doctors around her,she had every chance, nothing was denied her,she chose how she died, her life was in her hands,a life of luxury

FOR FUCKS SAKE!!! I KNOW!!! i was just saying, sorry!!! What i meant by death is that we all start and end up the same way... It doesn't matter. And i'm not some freaky christian who laps up everything thats said in his fav big book. I'm pagan. I have a respect for life that i was just trying to share. Sorry. I know that she represented everything that was wrong with the world Blah Blah Blah...

while it's said that someone has died, i don't really care.
she was born into some snobby family, she hasn't had to work a minute of her life to live and she's done nothing special.
someone at another forum replied to that with "look what she did during WW2".
well, sure she may have boosted moral a bit, but at the end of the day she probably went back to her underground bunker and sat out the blitz.
my grandfather meanwhile, was fighting in the jungles of PNG. when he died did we have all this news coverage? no. so why does the queen mother deserve it, just becuase she was born into some family?

The Queen Mum is dead? I had no idea until I read this thread. I wasn't at home all day. That's the first time that happened (my actually getting news from Che-Lives). I thought it was a joke at first and then I saw a bit about it on the news a few minutes later.
Really refreshing... She was, what, 101 or so? That's old enough. As we would say in the South, "Well, at least she lived to a ripe old age before she croaked." Or maybe just I would say that. Whatever.
I am not by any means glad that she's dead but I don't really care that much either. I don't care about her family; there are more important and worthy people in this world [who have died]. There are actually people who do things yet we put such a big emphasis on her death as if she really did a lot to change the world. She didn't do much at all, from what I gather...

I hope the funeral's the 13/14 April, I'll be in Nottingham where people won't actually care because they see more important things happening.
And yes RAM, getting closer to the republic is a good thing, If you disagree with elected heads of state, I suggest you live in Saudi Arabia, I hope they execute you along with the other 300/year.

This is tragic, I mean what else are people supposed to do but focus on someone else's 'perfect' life? How else will they know how to properly behave and act!? If the royal family were to all eventually die, WHAT WOULD WE DO!?
I'm so worried right now,

I should challenge the queen to a duel because one of my ancestors left a carribean plantation to queen Victoria which made him richer than the queen at the time. so really the queen is rich because of one of my ancestors. (Before you ask, this is true)
Anway even if i didn't want it back it's always been royal tradition not to discuss things rather to kill those who oppose them, so in true royal tradition we should fight them, It's coutesy to follow their traditions.

Fuck the Queen Mum, fuck the Royal Family, fuck everyone who advocates that bullshit. Believe me, it is bullshit. I sung in Princess fucking Di's funeral...what the fuck did she actually do??? Wear a helmet in Angola?? Pat some kids' heads in Bosnia?? That's not heroism at all. In the same week, Mother Teresa died and how much press coverage did she get in this country?? Barely none. What a sick sick country we live in. I think the royal family is now little more than a clever diversion from important matters, such as POLITICS and our governments' constant blunders, and total fucking up of the NHS, trains, Post Office, and anything else that we're dumb enough to entrust to them. I mean, I'm all for public health service and transport, but we may as well appoint a monkey as Transport Minister (Stephen Byers...jesus).
Wow, that was quite a rant. I managed to link the Queen Mother's death to the poor managership of the public services...incredible.

It doesn't matter if she's queen vic or not, In true royal tradition I challenge the queen's legitimacy to be queen on the basis that I am the real king. Unlike the Canadian ex-pat in NYC who's doing the same thing (http://www.kickboxthequeen.com) I don't have an ankle that's broken in 2 places and I can do geometry.
Why am I not a "citizen" of any country because the only countries i'm a "subject" of are countries which force me to take an oath of loyalty to the same person. That's why I want to leave and go and live in a democracy and sever all my ties with this hell hole.

Your point is well noted. Respect for human life is very important.
I am simply trying to bash not the Queen Mother, but the Royal Family, it's just another 'spectacle' that mindless people focus way too much attention on. The fact that everyone freaks out when one of them dies is a sad, sad, sad commentary on the state of affairs...
If only more people cared about the thousands of starving homeless children that die EVERYDAY eh?

Respect the living?
Do you respect a Hitler?
Just how general is Ur respect?
Show fucking respect for someone who never questioned the genocide of wanton neglect in the "3rd World" countries?
Show fucking respect for someone who never stood up when the British State mudered the sailors on the Belgrano?
Show fucking respect for someone who never made any attempt to appeal on behalf of the hunger strikers in Northern Ireland?
Show fucking respect for someone who never made the cause of the homless in Britain the cause of her own, just as Di did in relation to AIDS and Land Mines, atleast to some extent?
Show this fucking dead non-entity respect?
No fucking way!
Beam down to Planet Grime!
Stop writing sad fucking letters to the Guardian!

I'll miss her...
She made her mistakes, granted. But I give her credit - she was documented as the ONLY person who was capable of making Hitler nervous.
An extremely strong lady who was quite a lovely person at the base of it all. I would have loved to have met her, she had a brilliant personality and a wicked sense of humour.
