Oh man, this book is the best ever.

Honestly, check it out whenever you have time....Williams (born in Trinidad) makes a good connection between how mercantilism gave birth to capitalism...with the obvious help of slavery.

Definitely check it out...I love Caribbean writers....Cheddi Jagan (former marxist leader of Guyana) is also another favourite of mine.

Do you have any other book suggestions?

with regard to the Caribbean :

Anything by Cheddi Jagan (The West on Trial is a favourite of mine...has a picture of him with Fidel Castro, and Che mentioned Jagan in a speech to the United Nations on Dec.11, 1964)

Michael Manley's 'The Politics of Change' is also very well done

Other works by Eric Williams :

"From Colombus to Castro" is probably the best history of the Caribbean you can find. Williams pays special attention to all the cultures in the Caribbean without too much bias. He provides good accounts of the East Indian migration with regard to the Dutsch East India Company...
