Alright what pop music do you listen to? Dont be shy, we all have our weaknesses.
I listen to Feeder, Muse, The calling a hell of a lot recently, snd im not ashamed to admit I enjoy it, a hell of a lot.
What pop music do you guys listen too?

I wouldn't really class muse as pop, more grungy/progy/wierd rock. Have you heard their latest album, it's incredibly good?
Getting back to the original point the closest thing to pop I listen to is probably Queen's less rocking moments, and also all the classic stuff from the Sixties: Beatles, early Who etc...

Heh, let's not start THAT again... :P
'Feeder' and 'Muse' are "Pop-Rock". This is excusable. In my opinion.
Annoyingly though, I have developed a "taste" for some of Dido's music. And that of Sarah McLachlan. They both have beautiful voices... It's just a shame that there are so many that follow only the "image"! :(

I have to admit that i like both Muse's and Dido's first albums.
Quite liked Space as well, suppose that is classed as Pop.
Queen were good.
But my true confessional piece, i like the occassional Britney song.

I don't consider any of that pop, Enigma. More like adult contemporary soft rock office music type shit. I thought this was gonna be a thread about people confessing to liking Avril Lavigne and Britney Spears..damnit.
I do like Dido on occassion. How about that :)

Yeah i Have to agree, some of Dido's stuff is pretty cool, cause it's similar to alot of lounge stuff i already listen to...
but yeah i listen to tons of world "pop". Stuff like Despina Vandi (the greek goddess), Najwa Karam (the queen of the Hijaz), Hisham Abbas, Nawal al Zoughbi, Julia Boutrous etc...
The music is quite different to western pop, though the concept i guess is the same. It's played in all the trendy spots, the personalities are huge....the major difference being, that the personalities do have the talent and the goods to be where they are, and the chicks don't look like crack whores who just woke up and finished off a bottle of vodka...

I don't mind her lyrics, but her voice pissed me off and I've heard her newest album too many times (once a week, every week last term during pilates, enough to put anyone off for life), but her brother was/is in faithless and they're pretty cool.
I've got tATu's album in Russian, and I've got Aquarium by Aqua. And I like No Doubt's tragic Kingdom, and Roxette.

You sound like my Nan.. Dildo is the sort of Heart FM, Lighthouse family style pretensiously wistful, two a penny, ill-conceived bag of horseshit that makes me want to cut people like you up..
She's missed the Bristol bandwagon (Massive Attack, Portishead, Earthling) by about eight years and those afformentioned did it a zillion times better.. She's living off that other little **** Eminems record whilst sucking every corporate dick on the ladder, she was dating a ecord exec - the foulest creatures on earth...What gets me though is she really thinks she's down, well I guess she is with middle England.. Eminem is the only tolerable "rapper" in the universe. His lyrics are superb. Well, most of them are - in some songs, he reverts to to the "I can't think of a word that fits here; I'll use an expletive instead" formula which is seemingly loved by rap "artists".
And don't call me a cretin again because I will find you and fuck you up...

Despite what many have said, I think pretty much all the mentioned music is 'pop'. Pop is so broad and hard to contain, overall, it literally means 'popular'.
Personally, the best I could scope it would be whatever has appeared on the charts (overall, not specific charts like country charts). It doesn't matter whether the music is 'good' or 'bad'. It doesn't even matter what the genre is, as 'pop-rock' is still 'pop'.
I used to be fairly into Radiohead, Coldplay, Travis, and various mainstream rap. I have some Beatles too. Some of my metal could be considered 'pop'.
Think about it, alternative used to mean something. What now? Alternative fashion and music have been hijacked by the mainstream and is now pop(ular).
I like whatever the fuck I like, no matter the label.

HEY! I love Dido....but the shit they play on the radio doesn't capture how good she is. I have both her CD's...and I pretty much hate her music thats on the radio. She is alot more than just another pop singer...she writes her own lyrics, she works solely with her brother and a couple other musicians, and she has alot of R&B influence as well.
I actually just saw her in concert a couple weeks ago and got to meet her..I also got to meet and talk to her band as well. The venue was small, (it was a community theatre) and she didn't have tons of merchandise to sell...only a bit. I checked out the label of the shirt and it reads "made in a sweatshop free environment in Los Angeles." Which I find really cool, cuz I'm sure she must have some say on that type of thing. Her and her band are really down to earth....and I think ppl shouldn't judge her music by whats on the radio...
Check out "Honestly Okay" or "Who Makes You Feel" if anything..

Dido! AUGH! I hate that moany, whingy voice that makes the happiest man alive (me) want to slash up their wrists and bath in vinegar while drinking syrup of Ipecac. Even thinking about her songs makes me want to skin my knuckles by punching a solid oak door in an adrenaline-fuelled rage!
I'm usually quite tolerant when it comes to voice styles; from the chipmunk vocals of Happy Hardcore to Opera to the rasping bestial roar of Slipknot.
hmm, Slipknot. I ain't listened to that in a while.

You think so? Well, I disagree. Admittedly, I haven't listened to all that much rap. But what I have heard is shockingly bad; it revolves around "*****es", "fuck" and "homies". Or something... <_< 'Eminem' can, at least, write about interesting things.

You can keep 'pop'
For the record, the rap that was spoken of in this thread is mainstream, and hence 'pop'
Personally, there's very little I've hear that was recorded after 1979 that I enjoy listening to... I go through maybe 8-9 new albums a week - I need music, and I constantly search for something new to listen to, but more recently I've been getting disheartened. If it's not formulaeic shite then it's a rip off of the stones or some such.

"Just to stop a fight; I don't think TCOTR has heard the full spectrum of Rap."
I didn't pretend to know much about rap, you'll note.
However, in my limited experience, I have found rap to be utter trash. 'Eminem' is the exception. For me. And no - I'm not naive enough to think that rap is represented fully by what MTV throw at us. But I'm sure the "good stuff" is, at least similar. Therefore, in my opinion, would likely be dross.

Hmmm. I feel honoured that you choose to spend your idle moments (of which I'll wager there are many) admiring my wisdom. A shame I rank second to internet porn, of course, but then you're a simple creature.
I'm at university. We don't get half term. I currently have an essay to do - therefore, I am procrastinating to the nth degree. And... Yeah... I AM in my room... Strange, that; you'd have thought I'd be on the internet whilst sat outside in the sun...

This is true. I don't buy quite so much new music as you; but I devour the stuff... I think my CD collection numbers close to 200 now. 90% of which are albums. And there IS some recent music that's worth a look. Like 'The Darkness'!! :D

Rap gets looked down on for the shit on TV. Thats not all there is but that is all you see becuase its usually all the capitalists put on there. Its just the same as pop, same music industry. Dont let your opinion on rap music be simply by the commodified garbage you see on television. Whats on TV is just a whore being made from a very proliterian culture. You dont see alot of Public Enemies and Talib Kwelis because their not talking about universal concepts of pleasure, love and joy all of which are things that sell.
Judging from television I know its easy to believe thats all there is out there but its not true at all and there is so much more to rap music then the shit THEY put on TV.
