106 years ago today, we got our so-called independence from the Spaniards. After 333 years of Spanish rule, the Spaniards lost the Spanish-American war and so, in a treaty called the Treaty of Paris, the 2 nations agreed upon one thing-- Spain sold my country for 20 Million dollars to America. That is how we got our independence, that is what America claims. Didn't they hear of Jose Rizal and his La Liga Filipina, Andres Bonifacio and The Katipunan, and the many others who laid their lives for the freedom of my country?

We are finally free. Or so did my people thought. The Americans took over and brought public education, protestant religion and democracy. Not to mention, vaudeville. The people who gave us our "freedom" are now the ones ruling us. Wow, we have democracy but the Philippine flag must fly togethr with the American flag. But my people thought it was ok. The Americans are more benevolent than the Spaniards. Then World War 2 came and we are caught between America and Japan. The Japanese ruled for a while but the superpower that is America won the war thus, America rules again. Four years after the world war, July 4, 1946, the Americans grannted us another independence. But they still had to have military bases here (for another 4 decades). For more than 10 years, we celebrated our Independence the same time that America does but one president decided that we should keep the old independence day, he thought that was the real Independence Day. So today, we celebrate our independence day but are we really free?

Our current president is a "good" friend/ ally of Bush's. Bush sends us help. They train our troops for war. And our president supports whatever Bush does. Since Bush helps us, he deserves our support. Bush called the National People's Army (a communist group here) terrorists, so does our president.

Wait does Bush realize that the flag being flown here is not the one with 51 stars but the one with just 3 stars? I guess he doesn't.

Another thing that was messed up is when the U.S. supported the Marcos dictatorship. A friend of mine told me that when he worked at the airport there when he was younger before he came to the states said that one day this crate was being loaded on to a plane and it turned out it was filled with weapons, bombs, silencers, etc. and so their boss told them that if they ever mentioned anything about it then the government would have them imprisoned for the rest of their lives or they would be executed.

Many countries across the world must take up the struggle against American hegemony. From what you have said more people need to take up the struggle in the Philippines, a country where American domination is strong.
