I was considering buying tickets for the "G3 Live" event this year; it's coming to the UK in a fortnight or so... Joe Satriani and Steve Vai - fantastic. I'd pay £25 to see either one of them solo. But the third guitarist is some guy called Robert Fripp that I've never heard of!

Apparantly, he played for 'King Crimson' - a late 60's band... But I haven't heard any of their stuff! Can anyone tell me if he's any good?

Robert Fripp is with out doubt among the best prog rock guitarists of that time and any time, really.
King Crimson is very good. Start with In the Court of the Crimson King. That's their most popular album.
Perhaps you've heard the song 21st Century Schizoid Man. It's by King Crimson and features a classic riff. You've probably heard somewhere or other.

The show sounds awesome! Have fun.

Thanks guys! :)

Is there anyone around that you can compare his (Robert Fripps) style to?

... Start with In the Court of the Crimson King ...

* And he did *

Thanks, RedZeppelin! You're right, he is a good guitarist - and 'King Crimson' have a wonderful (and unique) sound... I reckon the vocalist / bassist is pretty good as well! :)

All the tracks on the album are magnificent, but "Moonchild" trumps them all.

Incidentally, which one should I get next? My "local" music store (a great independent shop) is having a sale; all of their albums are a mere £6 (about $11?) each! (Frustratingly, just after I complete my Led Zeppelin collection with the purchase of "Physical Graffiti", all their albums get slashed to the same price! <_< )

I would recommend #2, In the Wake of Poseidon

I'm glad I'm not there, dude. I go apeshit around the presence of records. Always trying to up my small 86 LP collection, I gue

King Crimson is the greatest band ever.

Robert Fripp is the greatest guitarist to ever exist.

I recommend you start with the album, "Red," if you want to get into King Crimson. That album features their best lineup, which also recorded the albums "Larks' Tongues In Aspic" and "Starless and Bible Black." "Red" is the one I listen to the most, but all three albums are practically on par with each other.

"In The Court Of The Crimson King," their first album, is their biggest commercial success, and features members of what would later become Emerson, Lake, and Palmer.

The newest King Crimson album, "The Power To Believe," released last year, is also a masterpiece. It sounds like the apocolypse. One of the heaviest albums they've put out.

Hell, there's almost nothing in King Crimson's 35-year-old catelog that fails to amaze.

But, before you do anything else, get "Red," then get back to me.

I just got Red.
It's really awesome.
The drummer is great on this thing. The drummer from Yes, is it?

Anyway, all of the songs are briliant. These guys are true virtuosos.
