QUOTE (SittingBull47 @ Jun 4 2004, 01:05 PM)
I don't know too much about them myself, but I do know he worked harder in them than anybody else. 24/7. working man

He sent homosexuals, political opponents, and AIDs victims. Why would he work in one himself?

I saw this while looking for stuff to laugh at in that stupid Che-Idol board in the thread "Labor Camps". Is this true? I've never heard of it.

Have a browse around, there's some good info on the site.

Apparently my language skills aren't of sufficient quality to understand this either, hence why I made no effort to address it ;) I think a key word must be missing out, but what and where can't figure out <_<

Yeah same, it's just a quote taking way out of context or something?

As far as I know, Cuba never had "labor camps" like those of the USSR, China, etc.

Why the bold around "had"?

by adding italics, bold and underline to text, it becomes possible to add emphasis - or inflection - to text.

It's a very good method to focus the eye on key elements of text as well, just as people tend to focus on catchwords in speeches.

I just don't get the stressing of "had"; it seems a far better choice to stress "ever".

Who says:

I don't think Cuba ever had camps.

As opposed to:

I don't think Cuba has ever had camps.

?

It sounds like from the first example that you are implying that they had no camps, but now do. From the second, it sounds like you are denying that they have ever had camps, thus making your point more obvious.
