I was looking at the Daily Show today and I heard the G-8 conference is on an Island off the coast of georgia. So now when people are having demonstrations the group 8 deciding the billion's fate wont have to hear a thing.

They've seriously upped the security this summit for 'security reasons' because of the 'terrorist threat'. Good grief. do they think we are idiots? It's obvious they just do not want to hear the large crowds of people who are pissed off at their imperialistic foreign policies.

Its far easier for them to ignore the people, than for them to listen. They are capitalist, what do you expect?

Maybe groups of protestors can get loads of dinghies and other small boats, sail close to the island, and shout through megaphones?

Or they could sneak onto the island and have a mass protest on it

When will people learn that protests achieve nothing?

I would have thought that with the protests before Iraq changing nothing at all that people would realise that the governments only do what they want.

Its all very well having freedom of speach, but if no one listens, whats the point?

Let the "terrorists" (buzz word of the decade) blow the fuckers up!

I still thinkl that protests are useful, even if the don't change anything they are still useful to our cause.

More protests = more popular support.

I Don't believe you can honestly say that protests will solve nothing at all, for when all the labor force of a country rallies up in arms in the form of protest there is not much that any corporation or administration can do to quell it's influence.

Protests raises the consciousness of those involved in them. And if they get big enough they can get more people to take interest in the case. Also people can see the system for what it is when the politicians don't listen to them ie. fake democracy.

What do you propose Vincent? That we just sit on our lazy ass in front of the computer all the time?

This is quite true, and it is the fundamental basis as to why the US government gets to do pretty much what it likes. Because it allows it's people the right to protest, it can sit back happily in the knowledge that so long as the protesters never manage to get enough support to become a threat (and it's perfectly feasible to assume this) that they can continue to have their cake, and eat it too.
