Ok before I post it I realise you lot might not want to see it.

Maybe you want to keep him as an unknown mysterious symbol, or maybe you juts want to know who's behind the mask.

Of course, this may not be the true face of El Marcos, but twice I have seen this linked with him, and in my own opinion the eyes match and mouth match.

Let me know what you think...

Dunno, i remember seeing a much larger image, found it via google though. Best bet is to type his name in as many ways as you can think until it crops up.

Why has everyone written off his looks on one poor quality photo, I think he has beautiful steely eyes similar to che or the artist Rodin who always looked to be deep in thought, for every one bad photo 10 good ones can be taken, the photographers of the revolution were all highly skilled in their craft and you must take into account the deliberacy of this act on behalf of Castro. I think I could work very well with Marcos without the mask he also has a great individual anti-mainstream look but I would prefer if his beard were not groomed and his hair a little longer. Then we would be looking at a very enigmatic face. We all know however (don't we?) that the balaclava is the same logic as that in the inception of the burqa so as the person is judged on their merits not looks, it is a very deliberate ploy and also to a certain extent a safety measure. But I dispute that he looks better with the balaclava.

This thread is almost 2 years old but I saw it only now. Always nice to see people not looking their usual and what makes it special is it is Marcos.

By the way, Floyd, where are you?

I whole heartadley disagree. I think a lot of che's popularity comes through his how photogetic he is. Popularity outside of leftists that is.

this thread is a betrayel to a fellow comrade  . As supporters of the zapatistas and marcos we should respect his identiy and his commitment to keeping it a secret. Many people don't know the reason why the mask is there. Its to prevent any soul person from being the center of the revolution so that everyone is equal so that all actions committed by a member of EZLN are recognised as a group action. Its a mirror as marcos has said you look into and you see yourself becuase we are all zapatistas becuase we all struggle with neolibralism. Oh and incase anyone is wondering that really isn't him there is very little solid evidence the truth is thats just the medias way of demasking marcos bu the truth being is he has never been unmasked and we as comrades should respect his choice for this. He isn't hideing from the government he is becomeing one with the Zapatistas. VIVA ZAPATA

LOL, your argument would work if his(albeit masked) face was not already all over the place. Mask or not, you've made one of the biggest cults of personalities in the history of the left by mystifying this man.

His eyes are probablyhis best feature.

He definitely looks like a uni professor.

The mask was a genius idea though. In terms fof marketing and propaganda the Zapatista's are very very good.
