Well I had a chance to mail noam chomsky about what his views were on supporting the democrats (as I had read somewhere that he did), and this is what he said :

"I don't support Kerry and the Dems. If Bush was running against Hitler, I'd suggest voting for him, but not supporting him. I think Kerry will be marginally less bad, and in systems of huge power, small differences translate into large outcomes for people. "

Thoughts anyone?

He seems to be taking a step back. He doesnt seem to be as pompous about his decision anymore. He's almost defensive...

I think we're all desperate to step back from hell to the frying pan, and then trying to get off the stove from there.

We will have enough problems getting rid of Bush, then it's left from there.

Unfortunately as violent revolution will not work in this case, we're going to have a mental revolution where more and more people become aware. Therefore do we need everyone to suffer any more needlessly, or will people simply become disillusioned as a result?

I hope and pray that we get anyone other than Bush, but its not really him that's the root of the problem. Say a Democrat gets in, then the right-wing media in the US will savage his policies and force the agenda, just like with Clinton. Al Franken is an interesting (and funny) writer about exactly this- he's a staunch Democrat, but his research is useful. If the people become disillusioned with Kerry and seek a solution further to the Left, then we might be getting somewhere.
