Comrade Mathew
2nd June 2004, 20:28
hi guys,

i just came back from one year exchange in the USA i know lil strange choice for a socialist but i wanted to know if what the people say about americans is true.

My time wasn too bad even though some thing really pissed me off and i am gonna tell you about it.
just for information i was in addison, NY

1. there was way to much racisim. people asked me to tell them how to say: "our principle is a big black fat nigger" in german and i was about to beat them up every time!
2. there was about nobody interressted in politics, people asked me if hitler is still alive (even teachers!!) and if our country is communist. Some even ask who won ww2 and on what side we fought........ <_<
3. people say stuff like: "we dont like cuba" you ask them why and they say "we(americans) just dont like cuba".... couldnt find a better argument

Oh yes they fucking are! I remember a friend of mine (not a leftist) said he was on a cruise of the Carribean, and this ship sailed past the port at Havana, though it did not dock. He told me how, whilst sailing past Havana, the Americans on board started to boo and shout stuff like "U-S-A!, U-S-A!", and one guy even shouted some obsenities.

I have also myself met Americans who have stated that Cuba is an "enemy".

the americans don't really hate cuba, they hate the dictator thats been there for 47 years

But the fact is the vast majority of Cubans don't seem to agree with the U$, so who gives a shit?

There still is a lot of racism and discrimination that goes on here in the U.$. Especially in a lot of the smaller hick towns, like back where I used to live before moving back here again. There are many reactionaries who live here, maybe even more so than other parts of the world. I honestly think a lot about moving out of here and where to go. Especially if Bush gets reelected, no way in hell would I want to stay here. :P

And yeah, there are many people here who hate Cuba and Castro. Communism is a threat to democracy.Remember the cold war?
Sorry, but I've got to reply to that.
Communism in the form of Leninism and Maoism is a "threat to democracy"
Communism in the form of Anarchism and soviet rule is, to me, the greatest form of democracy.

The biggest threat to democracy in this world is the U$ - a country which accepts ruthless, right wing dictators as good allies. And a country that, as soon as a socialist government is democratically elected in a developing country, denounce it and try to kick out the government and replace them with a dictator of their choice.

Communism is no threat to democracy - fear of it is.

i just want to make sure you don't get me wrong sure not all americans are ignorant sure there are ignorant germans... i meet them everyday.... but it's way worse in the US than here at least from what i experienced

i saw a test where many americans didn't even find there own damn country on a map...

I was told that the war in iraq is good because Quote: "those damn arabs wanna kill us" i dont say thats everyone but i say i never heard that in any other country i've been to

I don't think it's that odd a choice for a socialist to visit america. I mean, to dislike the politics of a country you had better know the country instead of just going with the flow. I'm sorry you had some bad experiences in NY. The most (approx.) racially diverse state and you encountered that shit. Just imagine what it's like to live in smaller communities. (it sucks).

Not all Americans are stupid...some are, lol. But not everyone.

My cousins in the states love to say how great their country is, and that's largely due to the sophisticated media barrage they've been fed. They're too patriotic, that it blinds them somewhat from what their country really does.

I'm surprised you only recieved that amount of stupidity. When i visited the states a few years back, ppl used to ask me, 'is it true that ppl in canada live in igloos?'....

Go figure.

it started while my uncle was in a meeting for the CDR,(if u r communist u most knw what that is) well, they were talking about how fidel has helped the country and how thw economy has been getting better thanks to the tourism, well my uncle brought the point that a tourists in Cuba gets a better treatment than the citizens and that they would get things that a regular cuban have never gotten in their whole live , he also brought the point that the people that work for the goverment had much better stuf than the rest of them, well , in that meeting there was a guy from the cuban imtelligence, immeditially they call my uncle to talk to him privately, my uncle went, when they got to my uncle's house there was a car waiting for them to take them to the police station for supposily disturbing and corrupting the minds of the revolucionarios and the community but supporting the US goverment. There you go, you want his name to, Modesto Santana Perez and he lives in Cumanayagua,Cienfuegos,Cuba

second most americans that support the government dont acquire the knowledge to support their opinions

you gave a pretty one sided view without that would make stupid people support you, without saying lies..., you should be a politician...

Has the USSR and China not done the same thing as well?

Yes, but what I am saying is don't judge a political theory on what people claiming to represent it do.
In my eyes the USSR was not, and China isn't a communist country.
They represented the Leninist form of communism, run by dictators.
Not all communists believe in this, so to cast us all in the same category as those people, shows ignorance to what we actually believe in.

communism has never been realised thats the problem its been used as a term by dictators to corrupt the country its never been used in marx's way and never been used in a way of common sence just destroying the middle class is no way we have to unite the whole country and fight unjustice and unequality

It's hard to come to a conclusion about an entire country, especially when you have only visited a small part of it. It sounds like you were in Mississippi or Texas or somewhere like that. Try visiting a major American University like Cal Berkley, Michigan or Colorado-Denver. I go to CU-DEnver and at our school we have at least 1,000 registered members of either the Socialist Worker's Party, or the CPUSA. You should also visit Detriot, which is a hot bed for socialist and organized labor activities.

My group of friends simply refers to Florida (the state in which we live in) "The Sunshine State of Hate" because thats how the people seem to think... its scary, driving is a constant defensive maneuver...

Anyways, my biggest argument to anti-Commies is pretty much this...

Ill agree that Communism looks great on paper and how the leaders weve had in modern Communism have bastardized the original intent, of course, look at modern Democracy, its nothing like how it should be and the leaders are running all over the people with little the populace can really do (or so they think). So again, what makes Democracy and Communism that much different at that angle? They both look awesome on paper and both can be run easily by corruptable people.

This kind of thing is in my mind unnaceptable. I can entirely understand your desires to leave the country after an incident like that.

Do not be fooled however - The only difference with your new habitat is that if you tried to make your voice heard you would simply be ignored

Admittedly that's better than being imprisoned, but you should take some solace at least in the fact that your uncle evidently hit a nerve, and may even help to improve the lives of those who are under Fidel.

so how is the weather in Africa, hot? (sure because spain is in africa^^)
do you have Tv and phone in Spain?
do you know what is internet and how to use a computer?
hey dont visit east germany they r communists.( sure because the DDR stills existing in 2004^^)
do you have as much freedom as americans?(incontrolable laughter)
isnt america and all of our presidents the best place in the world and the best people?(incontrolable laughter x2)
do you have a house or u live in the street like most of Europe does? -_-
do you have enough money to eat at least once a day?
communism is bad because my family/teacher/goverment says so.

Questions asked by me and their answers?

to a history Teacher: Q(Me)- so why is that like that? A- because the Goverment says so. Me-well if you dont give me a better answer i would considere that ur lying. A- ok, because the president of the USA says so and he never lies. Q- ru serious? A- yes.

Teacher to me: Q- whats the biggest country in Europe? A(me)-Germany. Q-sure? A(me)- Yes. (Teacher)- no, you are wrong, is the Soviet Union.

so interested by that answer i made a test and i pass it trough all the school(1000 students) the answers were:

89% of the students cant find Germany or France in a map and 45% of them situate them in southern Asia.
63% stills thinking that Europe is divided and that the USSR stills existing.
82% of them cant say a name of another president or ex-president that is not from USA, 6% mentioned Hitler as the president of UK, 3% of them said that Hitler was black and from Africa.
99% of them thigns that the war in Iraq has been made to "free" the Iraqians.
1% are communists and answered all my questions correclty.
61% of the students cant name more than 3 european countries,30% just mentions 2, 20%only one,11% mentions countries that r in Asia or Sotuh America.
75% of them believe that another society could be possible, 73% of them said that this society would be made by an american if not there is no way.2% said that they dont know who will made that new society.
3% of them things that we dont have phone, light nor internet in Europe.
93% says that USA is the best place to live and that they have ore freedoms than everywhere else.
78% of them think that USA is good with everyone and would never support dictators.
57% of them said that if the president says something is because is true.

i could keep on but i think its fair enough....
btw i sent the same test to another 500 schools and i still waiting for their answers, the same test but with different questions but of the same kind was made in Spain and we never got that extrem stupid answers. SO AMERICANS ARE NOT STUPID? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA ROFL!!

Really?

Sorry, but....

We're in favour of a federal europe despite the fact that we are 'more intelligent' and 'less ignorant' than our yanquis counterparts?

Bollocks I say.

We've seen what happens when capitalism takes a hold, and really wields it's power. Federal Europe is another example of this. Strictly speaking I'm not against this (but that's another issue, and I favour it for disturbing reasons) but it's like signing our own death warrant

So in fact, we in Europe are not more intelligent or less ignorant than our comrades on the other side of the pond - your own assertions prove this, as your ignorance shines on through.

can u show me why am i an ignorant?
maybe i have written it wrong but is because when u speak: catalan, spanish, english and ur learning Russian thus english is not my native language i can make mistake but that doesent mean i am an ignorant, u might be an ignorant for your last post, because the same things that i have asked in the USA if you ask them here no where and no way you get that horrible results so in fact in the USA people is more ignorant and brainwashed, btw wherever ur from in Spain there is no brainwash when for example history is explained the 2 views of a conflict are explained, neither we have to learn our hymn and sing, they dont expalin us how good is Spain and how bad are the other countries, so i dont know where u see brainwashing.

DaCuBaN
8th June 2004, 18:42
I was not asserting that you personally are 'brainwashed' - but I do assert that you are ignorant in this case. Ignorance is perfectly treatable though, and as you have stated you are learning multiple languages then it will be no trouble for you to do the necessary research to expunge your ignorance.

On a side note, your english is very good.

hey im not saying all the Americans are stupid but they r much more stupids and brainwashed than we are in Europe!

The US is a country of 300,000,000 people. They are all ignorant?
I'm calling you ignorant for tarring an entire nation with the same brush - Throughout europe there are nationalist causes where people seem to brainwash themselves (strange as it sounds). This is no different in the US.

everyone knows that this is true

Then why doesn't everyone hate america? I'm calling you ignorant on this one as quite evidently not everyone knows this, or noone would be advocating the US outside it's own borders. People like Tony Blair and your own ex-leader wouldn't have backed them.

I merely wish to point out that we in Europe are just as ignorant and stupid as our US counterparts, and that I believe it igonrant of the real scenario to state otherwise. A gross generalisation of this kind serves no purpose and does not truthfully relay the facts.

renwan

UK, Israel, Poland - these are all countries that petitioned for entry into the EU, three *EDIT* typo - I of course meant two *EDIT* of which are alread in that support the US. All members of these countries by your definition must also be ignorant, as they have not ousted their leaders and still have forces in Iraq.

This seems like continued support to me, and I'm sure if I actually bother to look into this subject - which because it's so patently absurd I'm not keen to - I could find countless examples of people without any american ties praising america.

In reference to your ex-president, is the man dead? If not then there's on ignorant spaniard for you - and proof of another

There's not really much else I can say... you've provided no evidence either way as to why people on one side of the pond are 'less ignorant' than those on the other. So I shall repeat:

I merely wish to point out that we in Europe are just as ignorant and stupid as our US counterparts, and that I believe it ignorant of the real scenario to state otherwise. A gross generalisation of this kind serves no purpose and does not truthfully relay the facts.

Ack. I haven't read every post, so forgive me if this has already been said, but some of these things are just lies. Sure, some Americans may act "brainwashed" and overly patriotic.

And those Americans want you to think (and may think themselves) that all of America is "100% patriotic!"

But that's just not how it is. I'd say that, if anything, a majority of Americans oppose our government. As for those "statistics," I'd go so far as to say that they are nothing more than fabrications, pulled out of thin air. As a product of American education I can say that Americans as a whole are much smarter than that.

To be prejudiced against Americans as many of you are is nothing more than racism. We Americans are not so different from you Europeans! Some of you might be surprised if you were to come to the United States and see what things are really like here.

do you have a house or u live in the street like most of Europe does? -_-
do you have enough money to eat at least once a day?
communism is bad because my family/teacher/goverment says so.

Renwan I do believe you are confused about what the National Bolsheviks represent, I recommend you do some research and then change your avater..

Unless of course you are a National Bolshevik....Then you have bigger things to worry about...

I would dearly love to say all politicians are inhuman, but they are not. They act like it and as such by your definition are utterly ignorant.

For your information, the vote in the UK was split almost 50/50, so no the UK doesn't either support nor oppose the war. That makes at least 50% of the UK ignorant. So that means now that only the french, german and spanish aren't

We seem to be getting onto thin ice here

UK is already in the EU so is Poland

Yes, that is what I said.

Israel have never applied to Join the EU

Bet your life on that assertion? (http://www.eu-del.org.il/english/content/eu_global_player/3.asp) No, I thought not (http://www.parapundit.com/archives/001324.html#001324)

hey im not saying all the Americans are stupid but they r much more stupids and brainwashed than we are in Europe! and everyone knows that this is true
Just because its easyer to be stupid here, in the United States, doesnt mean every one here is stupid.
And even within my country, not every one can enjoy being so stupid.

What you said is stupid, and I am very offended.

Come on, I know they are a bit thick in America, but that is rediculous!

I once heard about a survey of American high schools, and 60% of the students asked thought that honey was made by supermarkets. :D

Listen, I know you weren't trying to say that every US citizen is a dumbass (hell, in europe we get that impression given to us - it's one of the methods used by Euro governments to make us think we somehow have it 'better' than our counterparts on the other side of the pond) but you must be careful about what you say.

I think this can be put down to preconceptions based on invalid statistics and (of course) the language barrier.

Henceforth I apologise for jumping on you: it was not my intention to try and ridicule you.

The jokes on you. Florida isn't part of the United States. It seceeded from the Union in 1991. As such, since it is no longer a state in the United States, it is going to be physically removed from the contiguous states by means of large earthmover equipment. Work on this removal was slated to start in 1992, but because of budgetary constraints, the trench digging will not actually take place until later this year.

The new canal formed will be called New Georgia River and will be patrolled continuously by border patrol officers in bright yellow kayaks.

In the newly formed country of Florida, all residents will be required to wear purple shoes to distinguish them from residents of the contiguous United States. They will be issued 14 day visas to visit friends and family only once in every 3 calender years.
