Hombre lobo no, hombre nuevo si. -Che Guevara

I've read this quote from Guevara which goes
Hombre lobo no, hombre nuevo si. Meaning,
No to the wolf man, yes to the new man I understand what he meant my the new man that he was trying to promote in Cuba, but what was was the reason for his use of the term, "wolf man." Is that some sort of Latin American metaphor?

I don't know if they tell this tale in cuba but in southern latin america(paraguay, argentina, uruguay) there is a folk tale about a man that becomes wolf(more like a dicomposing big , ugly, dog) during the nights and digs up graves of people. I don't know how this relates to what Che said but it is the first thing that came to my mind, since Che was from argentina. Again it may be some random stuff but it is what got to my mind. Anyway, sorry if it doesn't apply.

But would you be able to put it in a bigger context (i.e where and when it was said!), because in mexico at least, 'lobo' or 'hombre lobo' means a man that goes around with lots of women........ but I dunno'-

In my opinion, it means something along the lines of: "No to the chauvinist (or racist) old man, and Yes to the educated 'new' socialist man."
