ok everyone. i look at the local newspaper for the town i live in. I always see letters to the editors about how "politicians" should crack down on illegal immigrants or "aliens." I hate the way many americans think, saying that immigrants should not be allowed in this country. If this is the country of opportunity as they say, why not let anyone come over here? A little bit of hypocrisy right? I hate when ppl say, " why are we paying for mexicans to go to school, etc, etc." well for one thing your paying taxes anyways whats an extra 10 cents gonna do to your budget? These "americans" or white men from europe act like they own the country and are ignorant to the fact that their ancestors came across the Atlantic Ocean in search of new opportunities. What is wrong with having immigrants from another country in the United States? I just hate the way some ppl act, and I take great offense to it because I am an american born mexican and although I hate this country, ppl that might be starving should be given a chance to find better opportunities.

Oye, ¡tomaste las palabras de mi propia boca! I feel the same way.. Though I feel that this country could be much better, it is true that many people can find in the US better opportunities than they could in their own respective countries. The opportunities would be much greater if only these idiots weren't so racist. If anyone, this country belongs to the red men & women: the Native Americans. Oh, but when the Europeans arrived, if became their own. Who's the real illegal immigrant, pinche pilgrim? They came here because, where they lived, they were persecuted and they wanted to be able to do what they pleased. Present-day Caucasian Americans should remeber that those people were their ancestors and they should be sensitive to people who come here seeking the same basic thing. The fact that there is a prevalence of immigrants in this nation is the sole thing that makes it appealing in any fashion for me. If it weren't a 'melting pot,' I'd be much more disappointed.
And, I know this is not immigrant-related, but I'm sick of people who say that Blacks need to go back to Africa. Um, excuse me? Their ancestors are the ones who brought our ancestors here! They didn't actually choose to come..

In the 1970's there was a Native American who flew to Italy and "claimed" the airport that he landed in because he "discovered" it. His name was Adam [Something]. The Pope actually agreed to meet with him. That's my kind of pope!

Another thing I find a bit annoying (because I'm a dork) is how people refer to the US as "America" when america officially refers to South, Middle, and North America. I do it sometimes to, but I try to catch myself as much as possible.

I would have to say that hating immigrant's isn't a truly mainstream idea for White people. In fact many (rich) White people have immigrant's as house keeper's and gardner's, so who are those who hate the immigrant the white trash, those who actually have to compete with them for a competitive living wage. They don't have money or an education to get a white collar job so they gripe about the lack of job's and over crowding schools, claiming that their losing their country, which in fact is only their's because they are the devil's of the earth, destroying and stealing nearly every land they have set foot on.

This country, does'nt belong to anyone, it's dirt. The earth was made for us to live on not to divide for our own greed.

Interesting article about immigrants in the south pacific.

Thanks to the rhetoric of racist politicians and the mass media, many workers are afraid that immigration will lose them their jobs and drive down living standards in their communities. In reality, opening borders would help shift the price of labour to an international average. Closed borders act to keep down wages in the First World because control over the migration of labour allows first World bosses great power over the labour market. They don't just rely on the normal operations of the market, like supply and demand and so on - their control over borders means they can bring in and exclude labour as they desire. And, at the same time, they can scapegoat 'foreigners' for unemployment and social problems

Immigration's a real problem in the UK as well. Except we lock em up in prison camps with conditions that are so poor that they go on hunger strikes and attempt suicide. And then there's Australia...

I agree to some extent to what, samaniego. However, as soon as the Latinos get done doing their slave labor at the rich people's houses, the rich people want them gone. They don't want to see them in 'their' stores, 'their' schools, and most of all, their communities. You can tell just by the look of disdain from most passing rich people.

Have to agree 100% with everybody on this one. I'm an immigrant too, spent many many hours with the friendly INS, what a joy.

It's just one of the things I can't stand: total hypocrisy.

The economic reasons why the US should continue to encourage immigration are very clear. Net, immigration spurs the economy forward. Don't let anyone fool you with tales of crime, free healthcare and schools. The immigrants are here to work, and they work excessively hard for little money. The crime problem and the 9/11 terrorists are a separate problem that we already have immigration laws to deal with.

In my school there's like total massive anti-immigrant rhetoric.

In Business Studies it's like

"Yeah the government gives all the taxes to immigrants"

Then in English we were asked to write essays about poems which had "migration" as a theme. Then everyone starts going "Oh, Immigrants", "No it's OK, she said migration."

Well Duh they're both the same thing, talk about bullshit about something you don't understand.

Immagration is not such a major problem compared to why it is happening.

Most US whites do not look down on immigrants, of course there are some, but it is not enough to classify an entire nation.

What kind of jobs are these 'illegal immigrants' taking? They are more less wanted then what the other jobs that are commonly taken. I have never seen a Spainish speaking accountant, who looks like he just jumped the border.

My country..Australia...unfortunatley locks up asylum seekers in maximum securtiy "detention centres"... I dont use the word illegal coz i dont c them as illegal imagrants...illegals are people who overstay a visa(acording to Aus law from what i know)..These unfortunates didnt even have a visa in the first palce..there on da run from oppresive homeland..
And then u should see the right wing rhetoric they pump out in da media about em...da usal they take jobs away and cost too much blah,blah...While we let scores of"white" backpackers overstay there visas and take employement illegaly in this country..there the real illegals.
And just like the U.S this country was founded on migration!
Shame on my country.... Shame!!!!!!!
