Right here we go, i went to the Cuba Support Group, with Che Guevaras daughter speaking, i came home and everything was well. The next day my old man starts asking me questions about it and i answer but he also start calling facism socialism and communism and calling it evil.
He asks what has che ever done for me, that i couldnt answer, he said that capitalism is great and has no bad points to it.
He said either give up support Socialism and Che and take the posters off the wall or he is going to get rid of the internet, what am i to do?
He also doesn't listen, what i need is bad points about capitalism and how it screws the ppl, how socialsim helps the ppl and the how AMERICA is evil.
Please comrades, i dont have much time, you might not see me again, please help me sort the situation
IG32 out.

America.
Military interventions- Cambodia, Vietnam, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Chile.
Dictatorships Supported- Taiwan, Nationalist China, Samoza Nicaragua, Batista's Cuba, South Vietnam, South Korea.
Capitalism, the results
20% of the world's population owning 80% of it's wealth.
Girls as young as 7 being forced into prostitution to earn money.
No free market economies have ever been democracies.
Capitalism actually opposes democracy, if he doesn't listen to this tell him to go to capitalism.org
Ireland is a democracy, therefore you can believe what the hell you like, if he doesn't like it, tell him to go and live in Kazakstan which isn't a democracy.

Comrade,
It's such a shame that your father is such a closed minded individual. Is it not better that you have posters of real life individuals that had an influence on the world... that you have an interest in politics and humanity... than say meaningless posters of models, rock stars, sports heroes etc... ?
I was fortunate myself when I grew up. My father was very supportive, and proud of me when he saw me reading his copy of the communist manifesto. While not a communist himself, he had received a list of books he wasn't supposed to read when drafted in the Army, and so set out to find and read as many of them he could....
Just to form his own opinion...
So, for me, it's a bit hard to relate to your situation. If your father isn't open minded enough to at least see the benefit of having a son interested in politics over say drugs.... than perhaps conforming to his wishes and concealing your ideological beliefs and studies from him will bring you peace, and allow you to continue away from prying eyes

Get the movie 'Angelas ashes' out from the video store. Sit down with your old man and tell him 'this is capitalism dad'.
He may be scared that you're going to get into trouble or something as well. Maybe you could let him know that you're not planning to blow anything up until you're over 21 :-)

I would suggest taking down the posters. For now, I think your access to the Net, and therefore access to a wealth of information, is more important. While it kills me to say "conform" if it will make it easier to work on your ideals, then do it. The posters and such do not make you what you are. As long as you're free inside of your mind then you're still an individual.

MJM: Spot on! If he could be swayed, Frank McCourt's story would surly do the trick.
But, What Monkey Soup said is wise... for anything we put on ourselves, or our walls we live within, are only mear trappings, the don't make us who we are.
If simply giving up these trappings will get your dad to lay off, than it's a simple sacrifice.
For there are plenty more pictures for you to look at and words for you to read on the internet....

Placid river above, turbulent current underneath ...
Do what he says.
Take down the posters, store them somewhere safe, so that you can access them again whenever you want. Profess to have dropped the socialist beliefs.
You must create an illusion.
Sometimes it's safer to cast a spell over the situation until it's back in you're control again. But never kill the beliefs. Merely hide them temporarily.
Volunteer, if possible. Volunteering is the catch-job of the new millennium, everyone seems to love it - Capitalists, because it guarantees them free labour, and Socialists, because it means that they're helping the fellow man to rise above his pain. Again, it's an illusion, that can be moulded to suit whatever situation/confrontation arises.
I wish you the very best of luck, and you have my full support.

Do what he says......
If you truly believe in che guevara you will not need
posters to express yourself......
It is in your mind, and I think you did rather
want to talk with us here then to look at the poster all day....
And believe me I think your dad will get his way anyhow
so just do as he tells you........
After that we have some more time to think of something.......
Cheers and good-luck

Pa i love your avatar (is that what it is called ?) its nice. and well one bad thing about capitalism is ( one of a million bad things ) what they have done to the 3rd world countries, they oppress them and dont let them develop. It is what causes them to be poor.
Take down the posters IG as hard as it may be, you already know why since people have rereresaid it.

thanks for the advice but it goes deeper than the posters, he wants me to stop looking at it on the internet and stop reading about it.
He is not a cappiehe is a, if you were to take catholosism (wrong spelling) and use it as a gov system you would get his political view(yeah i think thats right
They say you cant change a man, i think thats what i have to do...

Tell him that if he oppresses your freedom that you'll leave home and see how he feels about that?

Maybe you should volunteer at a Catholic homeless shelter. You'd be able to feed the poor and make your dad happy.
I'm certainly not an expert on this kind of thing, but maybe you should compromise. I think it's very wrong that he's trying to change the way you think and restrict your freedoms, but while you're living in his house you (unfortunately) will have to respect all of his rules. Maybe you should spend more time with him and try to become more involved in hobbies of his (fishing? baseball games?) and then he won't feel like he needs to keep you on a chain.
