I have an idea.
How about eliminating religion from board topics altogether? How about we talk about something with relevance instead?
"When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways" (1 Cor. 13:11)."

What has religion to do with philosophy, there is a field called theology for religious studies, seem people cant see the line but hey whatever.
I'm sick of reading Biblical quotes.

They really belong in the Trashcan forum.
Which is to say, they really belong on other boards. There are thousands of religious message boards...and I can't understand why those who take religion seriously don't go to those boards and stop filling up this board with that crap.
I suppose what we could do is kick all the religion threads into Opposing Ideologies...along, perhaps, with those who start them.
If these folks want to talk about left politics, fine. Once they drag in their superstitions, off they go to OI.
Yeah, I know, there I go being "intolerant" again.

Obviously assuming this is in response to my recent essay. I find it almost hysterical that you wish to send those that "start" religion threads to restriction, yet you are able to respond to them.
Again, Redstar using his logic.
While I agree that religion threads may flood the Philosophy forum, where is the next best place? Last I checked, OI was for Capitalists.

So posting logical debate concerning a very controversial topic belong in the trash, yet topics on underwear, numerous threads on porno, vacations, "I height Bu$h", "post your picture", and Bill Cosby threads (the list goes on and on) are all logical and constructive debates for Marxists?
As much as you may hate religion, outlawing/discouraging/deleting threads on religion poses as an illogical answer to the problem. If you do not wish to read the constant religion threads, don't respond to them (as you have), nor even read them. It is as simple as that.
I discredit religion, and I personally don't believe in God. Yet that doesn't stop me from debating or posting on the issue. Because you believe the threads are trash worthy, why should someone else?

No, I wasn't thinking about your essay at all; though I wished you had focused your thread on subjectivism as a principle...rather than drag religion into the matter.
I know that it's highly unlikely that people who start religion threads will be caged...but I can dream, can't I?
And yes, I often do respond to those threads...it's a really bad habit that I wish I could break. I see some absolutely brazen nonsense posted and I "can't help myself"...! :o
Last I checked, OI was for Capitalists.
True...but given the reactionary character of religion, wouldn't OI be a suitable repository?

Many share your disappointment with the trivia threads (most of which are in Chit-Chat, by the way). I wish people were more serious...but what can we do?
Yet when you speak of "logical debate" in the religion threads, the only logic I see is on the side of the non-believers. The faithful have an infinite supply of totally unsubstantiated assertions to make; and as soon as one is refuted, two more pop up to take its place.
Arguing against superstition on this board is like fighting that mythological multi-headed serpent; cutting off one head causes two more to grow in its place.
It's enough to make me wish "the rapture" was "true"...and would take place in the next five minutes. Let them all "go to Heaven" and get out of our hair!
Or go to Opposing Ideologies. Or, best of all, go to superstition.net.
After all, are any of them ever likely to become real communists?
Because you believe the threads are trash worthy, why should someone else?
No reason. In this case, I am voicing an opinion that I hope most people will share. If enough people share it, then maybe something will get done about it.
We'll see.

I believe most of the religion treads started here are trash worthy, or at least we need a sub forum for theology or something. It's frustrating.

Pretty hard when they take over every thread, if the solution was that easy why would we be bothering?

I think we both know that it is not "every thread".
Maybe thats all the people who visit philosophy have to say anyway. Just ignore the religious posts, and carry on with your "higher-level" conversation.
