yo, heres a fact about stalin:

The germans had caught his son (a regular soldier), and wanted to swap stalins son, for a german general POW back. Stalin refused, consequently the germans killed Stalins son.

I was proper gobsmacked when i heard this as im usually a trot.

ive heard that 2- prob is, this can work both ways- for his opponents and supporters- opponents say that hes obviously a cold, evil killer for not swapping his son. i see it that stalin did this as not to upset other russians- you could say bravery

Think about it, if Stalin had accepted the deal, then he would have been made out to be corrupt, only caring about his family members etc etc.

I heard someone on annother forum say that Stalin killed his own son and wife. This is bollux because.

His son died in the way you said.

His wife commited suicide because he drove her mad.

Stalin's grandson stood for election in Georgia a bit ago.

well we know stalin is a cold hearted killer who murderd 50million peole. Im not sure if that info about his son is true. His son would be like a prince of member of the governmant, not a foot soldier.

I don't like Stalin, but he did not kill 50 million people. There was only 165 million people in Russia and as these purges were mainly targetted at men Russia would have had no way of fighting Nazi Germany. Also this is 1/3 of the population which the only times mass murder has occured on this scale (Herero Genocide and Cambodian Genocide) The populations were either so small that little trace was left of any events, or the countryside was littered with skulls. Also people the about the population of Britain does not dissapeare into Siberia without people digging up lots of bodies because bodies don't rot in Siberia. 20 million is more likely, 30 million tops.

Im assumming the figure "50 million" refers to the total number killed by Stalin throughout his 30 year rule, and that seems reasonable, as there were much more than 165 million people in Russia throughout 30 years.

not to mention the millions of people who were slaves sent to the gulag in Siberia, sent there for crimes as small as critcizing the government, or being though of having "revolutionary ideals"

nope, 165 million is the number of people alive in Russia at the time. Even with the birth and death rates you don't get a massively bigger number of people who ever lived under Stalin.

Also 50/165 is a Pol Potish sized ratio which doesn't happen without the rest of the world knowing (Stalins crimes weren't truely known until the 80s.) And 50 million people don't disappear into Siberia without lots bodies being dug up every so often(things don't rot in Siberia, it's too cold) and there's no explaination as to where they all went eg. burnt. Even the Black book of communism only estimates 20 million for the whole Soviet Union. Also take into account that if Stalin did kill that many people, the Soviet Union would have had 0 chance of fighting off Nazi invasion.
