Don't be ashamed to be a communist, but know how to back up your opinions. Don't make communism look like crap if you don't know how to debate. It'll be hard since you're alone, but you'll get better at it eventually.

And the electoral college is the least of components of a faulty 'democracy'. The fact the government is strictly bound to the interests of corporate America and will necessarily cater to its oppressive, exploitative interests is the leading cause of corruption.

The UK is not any more democratic or communism-friendly than America, so American communists are not alone. All over the West, communism is attacked by greedy capitalists and prejudiced fascists. Ensure you let others know that there is a better alternative out there. :D

Here's a strategy you might want to try in school.

First, become really well informed on current events in the United States...so that when you say something critical about the U.S., you can "back it up" with real facts. Then really pound away at the USA...don't let anyone get away with saying something positive without a negative interjection from you.

When people ask you (as they will), "what's your idea?", then tell them that you "are interested in the communist alternative".

Note the distinction: you are "not yet a communist", but you are "interested" in Marxist ideas.

If this approach "works", then you have an "opening" to discuss those ideas with your more intelligent/rebellious classmates. You might even get a small and informal "discussion group" out of it that would actually read some short pieces by Marx.

A good beginning.

I am in the UK equivalent of high school, and whenever I admit to being communist I am rubished, as a person, but I am not ashamed to admit it.
If no-one admits it you are going to be considered even more of an idiot if anyone does find out as if no-one admits to being communist, we are going to be seen as a more and more idiotic minority.
We should make ourselves known to the capitalists, even if it is just sprayin the hammer & sickle on a wall, because by making ourselves known we worry the borgoise and gain reputation.
If we keep ourselves to ourselves we will never get anywhere.:marx::hammer:

I started a leftist discussion group at my school. Me and one other guy were the only hard Marxists (both of us were pretty much from the same faction, so we became good friends), the rest were a bunch of left leaning democrats and one girl who called herself an Anarchist. Anyway, every time we met I'd bring in magazine articles, mainly from the ISR (International Socialist Review) or Leftturn, and we'd read it, and ***** amongst ourselves for the rest of the time and no one learned shit...

Much as I dislike the pessimistic attitude above, I cannot help but concur.

I certainly know in my part of the world people are simply not willing to listen - our culture has become far too self absorbed for many 'real' revolutionaries to come through, and the balance of the population simply couldn't care less

At my high school last year i started getting interested into communist alternative, and there was one guy who use to give me shit for it (he worked at maccas and thinks highly of CEO's, honours the ultra rich). Well now since i know a bit more and can hold a debate he doesnt say much and the other students who may ask questions, not big questions just little ones or curisocity(fuck i wish i could spell) and now they have a more lighty approach to communism as they admit they dont know much about it.

Yeah, the only way for us to get anywhere is for us to get ourselves known!
We must act and actually do something with our beliefs!:hammer:

Then go to business school!

Seriously, no one ever told you it would be "easy" (if they did, they were lying!).

Perhaps the material chosen was unsuitable -- try to locate and print-out some stuff from the French situationists.

And there's almost always someone "willing to listen"...even if they're very skeptical. You just have to keep "plugging away".

And also people don't "change their minds" in an instant...you have to be patient with anyone who shows any kind of sincere interest in revolutionary ideas.

Revolution is not a "sound-bite" or even a "mini-series"...it takes decades of work to bring about.

You didn't have any other plans, did you?

I never said I gave up, in fact we're going to pick the discussion group back up again next year (my senior year in high school). My point was that there were too many separate factions of "leftists", and all we were doing was arguing over what magazine we should get the articles from, what articles we should read, and why Kerry > Nader, stupid stuff like that. As the club founder I eventually decided to take matters into my own hands and hand pick the articles myself, fuck demoCRAZY, heh. But even still, there was more arguing than learning. Next year I will be more selective about club membership, and only invite hardcore lefties, or people that are willing to sit there and STFU...
