hey there, this subject gets me pretty rattled up, but i find it discusting that in my school we have about 5 boards with advertisments on them by companies that supported the war on Iraq, and i go to a Catholic school, i nearly got expelled for putting up an ant-war poster. Yes that's right, a school put up pro-war posters, and threatened with expulsion any body that protested against that.

Deface the billboards with anti-war and communist propaganda.
They'll like that! ;)

i would but there are cameras literally every where in school, all doors are literally in or out, every where you go they can see you its Orwellian but my class mates don't care they all get to have their daily E-number allowance.
Seriously, the cameras every where thing pisses me off so much, and there are gates all around the school, and fences. HELP ME!

well if there is a lot of resentment - get a petition going.
If you have the support - hit the local (and minor national) press.

And also as fellow comrades have suggested - mobilise a little campaign. I suggest "anti-advert adverts". There used to be a fair few sites with such pictures. I'll see if i can find the links (spam busters?)

Cheers.
And i wish you luck!

thanks for the ideas but there is no public support-the kids are brainwashed, they ]like adverts, they talk to their freinds about them, they eagerly watch television for their new faverites, i try to start a conversation about the depleating oil reserves, and i get ridiculed becuase i couldn't care for a new car advert. I've been deprived of a generation. *sigh* :(

If you get enough people to deface these avertisements, they won't suspend or expell you. It's a private school, they can't expell 250 students, or how many ever you get to go along with it.

thanks but like i said people like the advertisments or just don't care, they would never actually do something like that

I like security cameras at school, stuff gets stolen too often otherwise.

There are other ways to get your message across, i.e. school bathrooms.
Also, if they suspend/expell you, it can rack up a lot more support & will promote the cause a lot more than not, so I wouldn't back down.

P.S. They publicly fund catholic schools?

Where do you live? In America all public schools are supposedly non-denominational.

And you can't be a catholic and a marxist at the same time. You're fooling yourself.

There are plenty of publically funded catholic schools in the UK and one muslim school - I know not of any other religion/denomination

They are not strictly speaking religious schools as such, and they are obligated to teach on a variety of different religions (generally Christianity, Islam and Judaism). This doesn't mean that the kids aren't made to say the 'lords prayer' in the morning and other silly rituals.

Generally they do no harm, but I do object to the idea in principle.

Security in UK schools is absurd - seriously. You've got to see it to believe it. That and our state schools are on a league table - so parents pick and choose where they want to send their child!

The education system in the UK has been destroyed by tory and faux-tory governments.

That's what I was suspecting. Strange. Is there talk at all in the UK about an alleged 'seperattion of church and state' like in the US?

In my old school...we had these political debates once, about voting for which political party. There were posters of all the parties hanging there...well "all" the parties:
-VVD (very liberal, rich get richer, poor get poorer)
-CDA (christians who suck up to the US and have no opinion of their own)
-LPF (some peeps who take them selves too serious)
-PVDA (sort of the workers party, claim to be kinda socialist, but arent that really, they are more neutral)
-D66 (they tend to have some good ideas: Republic of Holland, mroe money for education)

So I tried to hang up posters for this other party called SP (Socialist party), I mean these guys arent even the communist party, but the principal got all hysterical that I hung up these posters and threatened to expell me <_<

Get caught defacing the posters.
They are wrong and should be illegal, so you would be right to do so.

Isn't this some violation to the "you have the right to express yourself"-rule present in nearly every democratic country? I mean, expelling you over your belives. I think you should get a lawyer or something to look at the case if you end up being expelled (that is, if you post some pro-commie posters)

Thats lame they would do that. Then again, most public schools don't believe in freedom of speech and pratice censorship. If they went as far as trying to expel someone for stating an opinion, that's a little extreme.
