Yeah, I have the four Doors albums that matter, and two live ones. I'm a little bit of a fan.

The Changeling is far too underrated as Door's songs go. The Menzareckian platitudes on that song are wayyyy to catchy, dig?

Yeah, man. LA Woman was the first Doors album that I bought, and The Changelling instantly caught me more than any other track. Menzareckian, I like that. :P

L.A. Woman is quite easy to play but just a side note, that song proves The Doors were still capable of producing amazing music.

fuck them. in fact, all they are trying to do with that negative snide listing shit is trying to lure people into buying their less-than-shitty rag.

I can't stand listening to the Doors, I would rather be entertained by those who are in control over themselves rather than by a drug addict vocalist.

But why? Chaos is so fun and needed in any general balance of things...

He wasnt a drug addict, he was an alki!!!!

The Doors were fucking amazing!!! Best songs are The End (its so violent and beautiful and sexy) Peace Frog and Five to One (Best anti-war song EVER!!)

I wouldn't call Five to One an anti-war song at all, but a pro-war song.

People think he is talking about Vietnam, the Viet Cong, and that whole mess, but I think it is more of a call to arms for the younger generation (under the misconception that the youth outnumbers the older people 5 to 1 worldwide.

What the fuck!!!
It's from the POV of the viet-cong telling the other side of the story

"Five to One baby, One in Five,
Nobody here gets, Out alive now"

It's definatly an anti-vietnam song!!

no need to get crazy on me, man. the only overtly political song the doors ever layed down was "The Unknown Soldier." for all of the controversy Jim caused, he rarely dabbled in politics in his music. Jim himself said he was far more interested in revolutionaries than in revolution. He liked the processes, not the politcs. It's very likely that "Five to One" wasn't about anything (it's a doors song...suprise!), but I think it's about a youth uprising. It definately ain't about no Viet Cong, though. I'll underline lyrics that are incongruous with this (your) theory:

Five to one, baby
One in five
No one here gets out alive, now
You get yours, baby
I'll get mine
Gonna make it, baby
If we try
The old get old
And the young get stronger
May take a week
And it may take longer
They got the guns
But we got the numbers
Gonna win, yeah
We're takin' over
Come on!
Yeah!
Your ballroom days are over, baby
Night is drawing near
Shadows of the evening crawl across the years
Ya walk across the floor with a flower in your hand
Trying to tell me no one understands
Trade in your hours for a handful dimes
Gonna' make it, baby, in our prime
Come together one more time
Get together one more time
Get together one more time
Get together, aha
Get together one more time!
Get together one more time!
Get together one more time
Get together one more time
Get together, gotta, get together
Ohhhhhhhh!
Hey, c'mon, honey
You won't have along wait for me, baby
I'll be there in just a little while
You see, I gotta go out in this car with these people and...
Get together one more time
Get together one more time
Get together, got to
Get together, got to
Get together, got to
Take you up in my room and...
Hah-hah-hah-hah-hah
Love my girl
She lookin' good, lookin' real good
Love ya, c'mon

Ok bear with me and I will try and give an in-depth explanation to those lyrics!

You get yours, baby
I'll get mine
Gonna make it, baby
If we try
The old get old
And the young get stronger

You get. . . couplet is possibly about everyone looking out for number one in the army! Every was trying to stay alive, which is not hard to believe with the ammount of soldiers both sides were losing!

Your ballroom days are over, baby
Night is drawing near

Ballroom days obviously some kind of reference to courting and youthfullness, conjuring up imagery of lovers leaving each other. Night is drawing near is a metaphor for the end of life.

Trade in your hours for a handful dimes
Gonna' make it, baby, in our prime

Trade in your hours, some kind of reference to wage slavery, abolished under Communist 'nam
Gonna make it, is the optimism the Guerilla's had even under the huge thumb of the US.

I am probably reading too much into it though!

that's scary how much this sounds like that article. I bet I have read it before or something. or maybe we just read the same biographies.

anyways, thanks again, Hampton

I still think it's about Vietnam, just the whole feel of it and everything, it just feels so much like a song about the war!

Pedro Alonso Lopez
31st May 2004, 17:18
Knowing Jim it was about none of them, Jim didnt care about politics. The ballroom days are over bit is about hippies pretending to be anti-war and acting free but really being constrained due to the fact they will get older and more conservative.

It sounds good, thats what Jim was about, also its fairly chaotic thats the point. It creates tension, 'DA DA DA DA DU NA NA' etc.

You are all reading in whatever interpetation you want when its highly likely there is none to be found.

I'm sure I'll draw a cacophony of criticism for this statement, but oh well. To this day I still don't understand the cult of personality surrounding Jim Morrison. Granted the rest of The Doors were excellent musicians, and Morrison had a fairly good voice, but his lyrics leave something to be desired. His rhymes are simple, and content mediocre at best. I refer you to The Crystal Ship on this matter. If drug induced psychadelia is what I'm in the mood for, give me Hendrix over Morrison any day of the week.

Oh, did I mention Morrison's poetry is pure shit?

Pedro Alonso Lopez

How much of it have you read, and also compare his lyrical skills with what a lot of bands get away with today. I can't be bothered defending him because some people don't like him straight off, what can I do.
