Draft to begin?

Recently I heard they want to call up at least 120,000 soldiers who are on unactive duty. Could this be a warning sign of a draft?

I highly doubt it, I think the government learned it's lesson on drafting during Vietnam and unless there is major guerilla activity on a dialy basis in Iraq there is no way they would start a draft. Imagine the public outcry, there would be lots of resistance against it.

They aren't pushing re-enlistment and then the draft in the US only because they can still use subcontractors like Halliburton and make a profit.

Iraq is kind of a new Vietnam....and I hope to God that it does not come out as bad as Vietnam does....I really do not think though that it could. The most American troops that were in Vietnam at once was something just above 500,000 men and women.

I find it hard to believe that the Iraq conflict could get that serious....but I may be wrong. I sure hope I am not.

From now until I am an old man war will always be waged, and my country of the United States will be likely to stir up all the problems. As long as we can make money from it......war will be waged. The Iraq war will be similar to Vietnam....we have no clear objective what to do to the enemy, so there will be no 100% winner or loser. George Bush has said we have already won, but we have many more soldiers dying weekly. When it is all over, and all American troops are out of Iraq, no one will be able to say we clearly ''won'' the war. Modern war is not fought like that.

So until it gets THAT more serious....no draft will be brought back. Once we can no longer make money or we KNOW our cause is lost.....then we will move out. Hopefully we do realize our cause is lost and get out quickly though, and not procrastinate to do so, as in Vietnam.

when was the last time you watched that movie? they were fighting canada in South Park, and i didnt see any kids in the army, unless you call Randy Marsh and Jimbo to be kids.

and I seriously doubt any draft is going to be initiated in the future.

I consider most troops to be "kids" as most are between the ages of 18-21 if they were any older they would be afraid of death, but at that age young people feel they are invincible.
