I went there with Pastradamus and andy, There were about 300 people there, some old, most middle aged and lots of students there too, some fella fron the Cuba Support Group, Declan, talked first and introduced Aleida she then talked about some history of Cuba and the trade blockade to the free training of doctors, health system and literecy rate, education. She spoke spanish and had two translators with her.
There were things on sale there and afterwards people could ask questions, and someone asked about the law and said that fidel castro was the law and was feared by people, Aleida replied by saying if you dont break the law and dont hurt the people you have nothing to fear from him.
She also said that Fidel was like a father to her when Che wasn't there and said that she loved them both very mush. It was very interesting.
Any Questions,
whos goin to the one in Dublin?

No it's free on the basis that you can donate what you want when your coming in,to the cuban support fund.
the reason she aint gonna be in the US is because she is strongly anti-american.

She sounds lovely. Her father would be exceedingly proud of her, I'm sure she's very aware of that, as should she be. :)

thats what they say in the states.. what's up with that? Thanks for the info but that part doesn't really mean anything to me. Here in the states if we don't have "illegeal" abortions, don't smoke weed or pay taxes for wars and programs you don't like, don't forget to register your car or try to get married if you are gay, we also have nothing to fear... stour laws still eat shit and put thousands of peaceful people in jail. not a good defense of castro at all...

Che's paternal grandmother's name was Lynch, making his father Ernesto Guevara-Lynch. But, I think the point of departure was way before that. I have heard his heritage was in Galway. Che also visited Ireland on his world speaking tour. I will try to find the piece on it I had and link it here.

They think the his ancestors were from Galway and Che's great-great-great-grandfather was Irish and arrived in Argentina in about the 17th Century.
In the speech in Dublin, Aleida talked about the Cuban history about the uprising against the Spanish, the revolution against America and Batista and then she went on to talk about debt and poverty in Latin America.
The other speaker Sergio ????(I can't remember his second name, he's a member of the Cuban government cabinet) talked about politics in Cuba at the moment and about Socialism.
After that, the questions were asked. One was about Cuban feelings on Guatanamo Bay and that there is no limit on how long America has control over it. They described it as 'a dagger in the heart of Cuba' (I think).
Another one was about what Aleida remembered of her father. Another on Cuban youth and a brilliant question on Cuban housing. Sergio ????? said that over 80% of Cubans own their houses because the houses are given to them free and when they pay rent equal to the cost of the house they own them. He also said that no one pays over 10% of their weekly wage on rent.
Another great fact was that in 1985 Latin America owed $350, 000 million in debt and now they owe $700, 000 million even though they have payed back the original $350, 000 million, they still owe twice that now because of interest rates.
DROP THE DEBT
If I remember anything else, I'll post about it later.

Well I showed up at about 8 and there were loads of us waiting outside the conference room on the stairs coz the security guards said the room was full and they couldn't let any more in "due to fire and safety regulations". But then we raged against them for about half an hour and they let us in :)
So i missed a lot of Aleida's speech but I got Sergio Carriera's. (that's his name, BornOfZapatasGuns)

i think it was "an open wound" (?)
Another good point Carriera made was that every year at the UN a resolution is put forward to end the embargo and the vote is always 167 to 3 (the USA, Israel and the Marshall Islands, which is a US protectorate). And he said the reason all the other capitalist powers vote against the embargo is beacause it is anti-capitalistic in that it restricts trade andexchange of goods. I hadn't thought of it that way before
