Under the Patriot Act and P-2, a revolution would be illegal. Now correct me if i'm wrong, but this nation was founded on a revolution. Thats not right. Auctually, since i'm posting on this site, I can be arrested for treason and conspiracy.

If there is a Revolution the person starting the Revolution is not going to obey laws of a system they disagree with and also who would inforce them.Going to your point about America was founded on a Revolution I think that they are not going to obey laws if it is not convienent for thier case. They wanted a Revolution and they got one

If the patriot act 2 is passed then it'll give them the power to revoke your citizenship if you engage in any dissent. It'll also expand the death penalty to 15 different more excuses.

Hmmmm, sure sounds like Fascism to me.

Hmmmm, sure sounds like Fascism to me.

yeah, isn't the "Patriot" act the one where they also collect the names of anyone who has bought left-wing books?

It kinda reminds me of Hitler ordering all Jews to register their property to make it easier for him to get them.

It doesn't sound like fascism, it is fascism.
I sure am glad I'm not American!

Well, i'm american unfortuantly. And yes it is fascism. Any one who says different has not a clue about what is going on or about history

Well, nobody said a revolution would have to be within the confines of the established law and order of the country, but I get what you're getting at. I'm not to sure you would be charged with treason, I mean if they wanted you I'm sure they would find a better reason.

Of course the Declaration of Independence states the peoples right to throw off such a government which creates an atmosphere of absolute tyranny, although I don't know how well that excuse will hold up in court.

To this day I've never understood nationalist pride - especially from the USA.

How feasible is it to break from the Union? I feel this would be the most effective way of enacting socialism in the US

I've bought plenty of left wing books lately myself... hopefully i'm not under surveillance already.

And yes, the Patriot Act is Fascism.

For a while now I've been looking at setting up shop out side the U.S. cause I've pretty much had it  Any suggestions from you guys being that I feel the majority of you live outside the U.S.?

Set up your shop in "Great" Britain. Plenty of people are left-wing here.

Nationalist pride is as near as dammit to Nazism in my opinion.
Nations are just another way of separating mankind, and as all men (and women) are equal, it is just another way of discriminating against fellow Man. I hate seeing national flags, I just want to tear them down!

Anyway, about the Patriot Act, just read the first page of Dude, Where's My Country? by Michael Moore. Its a pretty scathing attack on it!

Being proud of you country is not a bad thing. Supporting what it does no matter what, is.
Being born in Scotland I am proud of being scottish, but i do not thereby support everything there.

I admire the culture, history and nature. I have no problem with the eradication of borders so long as the culture is not destroyed.
Culture is important.

Yeah culture is different from nationality, culture is a good thing, national pride isn't as it can lead to racism.

Spot on HSF. My point exactly. But some people confuse the loving your culture with Nationalist pride.

Yeah, you can have a deep culture that you love, but still hate what your country does.

Perhaps my idea of Nationalist pride differs from others but I was born in the U.$. however my parents are Dominican/Puerto Rican and as a child I spent a good chunk of time living in the Dominican Republic. I love the Dominican Republic and I have plenty of Dominican flags around the house and even in the car. Perhaps in Latin-America Nationalistic pride is a necessity in order to bring about change. You love your country and your people, so you want to see them progress. Thats just my opinion....

Thats not the sort of national pride I was talking about. That is good.
I was talking about the sort of blind national pride we get here in England. People display the St. Georges Cross constantly claiming England is the best country in the world and all that bullshit. That flag is now a symbol of racist thugs.

Here in the U.$. there are so many nationalist assholes who wave their flag and say "kill all the arabs! lets nuke them all!".

If you look at the amount of natoinalism in the U.$. compared to most other countries, you just wouldn't believe it. They all think the U.$. is the superior nation to the rest of the world.

I really want to move out of here.

Touchstone: Um, revolution was not legal before the patriot act either. I don't know what you're so upset about. No government in the history of the world has ever legalized revolution, that defeats the entire purpose of a government. Plus, the patriot act doesn't really allow the government to do anything it couldn't do before, all it does it make it technically legal. I suppose that allows them to convict more people, but don't think that they just started monitering everyone when the legislation passed.

Only an unpatriotic person would oppose the patriot act! By the way, have you been gone for a while or is it just me?

You ought to come to England and watch our football (which for some strange reason you americans call soccer) fans you would soon change your opinion. The nationalism in this country is disgusting.

These guys just go to football matches to cause racist violence.
