I was watching the movie Charlie's Angels Full Throttle, dont ask, when they played the song Sleep Now in the Fire by Rage against the Machine.
Why would the former band members allow their song to be misused in such an obviously right-wing movie?

most times it the movie studios discretion, besides does it really matter that much Rage Against Machine were used in those studio cash in Matrix movies.

They did slip a line into the song, No Shelter in Godzilla that kinda showed it's point,
Godzilla pure motherfuckin filler/keep your eyes off the real killer it was actually written for the movie soundtrack. It seems like one of their most radical songs.
The Matrix did have some political themes, but Rage could have just been being nice, the producers probably couldn't find another song band whose music would fit the movie.

Wohooo!! I fuckin love it when our music expressing our feelings and our feelings of solitude and individuality and fucking dissent is co-opted by the American Dream to help the MTV mallkid generation wank off over Cameron fucking Diaz.
Fuck this shit.

True, it's really lame how they would want to use a RATM song in their movies. But oh well.
Then again, it made sense to use the song "Wake up" at the end of the first Matrix movie. The lyrics are comparable to the movie ;)
RATM aremy favorite group, and I hate seeing their songs being misused, but regarding the Matrix soundtrack, I think putting in such a blatantly anti-American song as Wake Up can only be a good thing!
its also openly Communist; "Fist in the air in the land of Hypocrasy." :hammer:

It's very foolish to think Rage has any control over the use of their music. They do not own it; the record label does.

That doesn't mean they have no say in how it's used, they do. Most bands do not totally give up the rights to their music.
They did it for money, plain and simple. Your heroes are pseudo revolutionairies.

If they did do it for money then I'm guessing it was done without persmission from Zack.

Zach drives an SUV that gets 10 miles per gallon and lives in a million dollar home, trust me, he has no problem with money.
You kids really need to realize that, above all, the politics of Rage were a gimmick to sell records. I'm sure they believe what they write, but they got signed because some record exec knew that he could package their politics into a money making giant, and the band members went right along with that.

That is wrong. Whenever you ask him, he feels very guilty about the ammount of money he has, and he says he gives at least 15-20% of it away.
Whenever he is feeling too guilty, apparently he goes to Chiapas to live with the Zapatistas for a few weeks
