It's actually a very interesting subject. De Gaulle were so pushed at a time that he even fled Paris. I will try to read a bit on the subject since it has been a while since I dealt with it. In my oppinion it was a revolutionary situation, I mean if that wasn't then there has never been any...

I Think that it was a Revolutionary Situation - but i feel It Should have gone Futher. If they had Suceeded - France would be very much Different.

Yes that was also my point.
The sad thing is that I have heard leftwing people claim otherwise. From stalinists to "trotskyists" (not worthy of the name then :D )
I just wanted to get it clear that I consider it a revolutionary situation.
And yes France would have looked different, so would the rest of Europe

The strike & student rebellion was awsome and could have lead to a revolution, but the Communist party sabotaged it. I pretty much agree with the analysis at http://struggle.ws/ws93/paris39.html There's a good overview at http://www.infoshop.org/faq/secA5.html#seca57

The USFI (4. international) also played a bad role. Just before all this happened they said that the class struggle wasn't on the agenda in France for several years!
They even refused to work in the socialist youth were alot of young people were looking for a revolutionary answer. So the socialist youth instead got inspired by the communist party, and as Morpheus said the communists sabotaged it. (as so many times before  )

Right - The French Communist Party Not only sabotaged the Revolutionary Situation
in France, but divided the Students and the workers. Also - there was not enough coordination between the revolutionary groups in france at that time.
