I have posted before about Frederick Douglass though I will breifly go over what he did.
He was born a slave and from a young age worked for his master named Hugh Auld. However as a teenager, himself and some progressive whites set up a suday school which would secretly teach balack slaves to read. This was forbidden because there was a fear that slaves would read abolitionist material and revolt.
He described how quickly made sure that instead of reading from the Bibel, they would read from Liberation texts.
To cut a long story short, he eventually obtained false papers and escaped. When in the north, he was originally very poor. However he scraped together the money to attend a lecture by abolitioonist Williamm Lloyd Garrison arguing against slavery. He was so impressed that he met Garrison afterwards and told him his story. He began to attend all of Garrison's lecture's. Then to his suprise, at a lecture, Garrison asked douglass to get up and share with the Audiences his experiences of Slavery.Douglass was very Nervous as he had never spoken publically before, but was amazed at the enthusiastic cheering he recieved. He began lecturing across the country persuading more and more people to join the cause to abolish Slavery.
It was his eloquence that, to a great extent, caused Americans to turn against salvery. He also brought ut a paper called The North Star. Most importantly, he formed a personal relationship with president licoln. Lincoln, had come to power as a racist who believed in relocating blacks, yet former slave Frederick Douglass was able to convince LINCOLN TO MAKE ABOLITION A CAUS E THE WAR.
Finally, Frederick douglass was the first man to second the motion for female emancipation.
All this is why I wish to dedicate a site to him.
