Of course it's oil.

oil naturally. People like to use the argument "if we went in there for oil, then why are the gas prices so high?!" Is it so hard to believe that the government is trying to get as much money as possible from people by saying that there's a "shortage"?

Well lets see... war is happening. I wonder what all those spiffy tanks and planes run on... ;)
I do feel this a two pronged attack - the oil is of course the primary benefit, but they are looking at this in the long run: Iraq would make an excellent american base of operations for 'calming' the middle east. Isreal didn't work for that after all.

It wasn't really 'for oil' in that sense, it was more for control of the oil markets, which can be used to manipulate other countries. We didn't get much oil from Iraq in the first place.

mainly just for expansionist imperialism, oil and IMO an almost real-life training drill. As Mussolini pointed out before he sent italian soldiers into Spain, there is no better place to test troops and weapons than the battlefield. As is with most imperialist states, they must test new weapons and prepare troops for greater conflicts and war.

Oil, a good location for bases and world domination (http://www.rense.com/general30/president.htm).
